For the first entry in the TFB Book Club Series, Atlanta-based journalist Sierra Bloodworth reflects on The Chiffon Trenches by André Leon Talley; exploring Black authorship within fashion history, institutional power, representation, and the politics of taste. With The Devil Wears Prada 2 entering the cultural conversation, this felt like the right place to begin: with the people and systems that shaped the industry itself. This is Entry 001 of the TFB Book Club Series, part of Built to Taste; our ongoing print and digital research project exploring taste across fashion, food, architecture, and lived experience. If there’s a book you’d like to discuss or contribute to, we’re always open to new voices and perspectives. Let us know. Read the full recap via the link in our bio.

Taste, What does it mean to you? Here is an assortment of tasteful multicultural photos in the form of organized collages sourced from Pinterest that made us think. 💭 For more information on the lovely song that inspired this curation, Wahdon by Fairuz, keep scrolling! ‘Built To Taste’ | TFB 03’

A student from the Penn State Math Club explained how he uses the Pythagorean theorem in daily life “Instead of walking on the sidewalk, I walk through the grass” That stayed with us. A² + B² = C² not just in mathematics, but in a way of thinking about commitment. A = ambition or discipline B = intuition or rest Your outcome is not random, it reflects how those two are working together. Not what you say you want but how you are actually building towards it! Especially in moments that feel like both an ending and a new beginning. So the question becomes: “what are you building, and what are you willing to commit to?” @penn_state_math_club did we understand this correctly? 🧐 R&R #06 TFB Substack | Link in Bio 🌟

TFB Research & Reflection is our ongoing substack series on cultural memory, lived experience, and research methodology. #01 examines Dr. King’s political thought and the responsibility of documentation. #02 reflects on 100 years of Black History Month, diaspora, and cultural preservation. #03 introduces lived experience and autoethnography as research practice. These reflections form the research foundation behind TFB Issue 03: Built to Taste. Now live on Substack. Link in bio.

Pamela Amsterdam: Queer Bar, Cultural Space & Why It Matters This conversation with Lola Edobor, founder of Bar Pamela, was recorded on November 20, 2025, in dialogue with TFB Journalist Orianna Santucci. As queer spaces across Amsterdam continue to disappear, holding onto places like Pamela means protecting the social ecosystems that allow people to feel safe, seen, and connected. Read the full interview via the link in bio. Show up, support, and help keep queer spaces alive!

As we curate Built to Taste, we’re opening up the kitchen. 🍴 while the internet loves to say “Gen Z doesn’t read,” we know that’s not true. We study, scroll, share, and show up for one another. Across countries, cultures, and languages, we’re connected by curiosity; by the desire to learn, question, and authenticly build something that lasts. So as we craft this issue through 2026 - launching in 2027 (yes, we’re letting it bake👩🏾‍🍳), here’s your Built to Taste Reading Menu: Filled with great reads to help you align with the inner workings of our upcoming Issue, Built To Taste. #TFBCollective #BuiltToTaste #readinglist #readmorebooks #intersection #fashion #food #architecture #publication

Between what we wear, what we eat, and where we gather, there’s a story waiting. TFB Issue 03: Built to Taste is about the systems beneath style; the politics of flavor, form, and space. You don’t need specific credentials to question culture. Just curiosity, respect, research and the ability to reflect on your own lived experiences. If you can approach complex ideas with care and courage, we want to hear from you. #TFBissue03 #tfbcollective #opencallforartists #tfbmagazine
