I’m deeply honored to announce that my film Redland Hooves will have its world premiere on May 3 at Prismatic Ground @prismaticground , New York, as part of The Contemporary Chinese Avant-Garde program, alongside so many remarkable works.
Much like its own making, the film is built around a woven memory.

“The Land Lies Heavy” is a program of contemporary Chinese experimental films. These works consider land and space, navigating legal codes, transformed geographies, and personal manuscripts to consider how people and their identities have been shaped, lost, forgotten, or fabricated by surveillance, bureaucracy, and history. These films revel in the mystery and unknowability of these different places, considering both the materiality of film and the ostensible veracity of text to rupture our understanding of the areas we inhabit and call home. — @misterminsoo /@toneglow

Xiamen is a city of distances. The sea surrounds it. Islands sit just across the water — close enough to feel like a promise, still out of reach. Low tide reveals things beneath the surface: old columns, tiles, words no one reads anymore
Some people don’t leave through the harbor. They climb to the highest point and wait for a ship. Not sure if it will ever be theirs. No language is completely honest
