Did you know Austin is home to the largest urban bat colony in the world? So it only makes sense that we just got an exhibit dedicated to them. “Masters of the Night: The True Story of Bats” opens May 24th at the Texas Science and Natural History Museum and it is genuinely so cool. We are talking lifelike models, hands-on interactives, and real science behind why bats are actually the heroes of the ecosystem. Rainforest regeneration, pollination, keeping insects in check… bats are doing a LOT of heavy lifting out here. This one is included with regular museum admission, it runs May 24th through August 2027, and it is absolutely worth a visit before summer gets too busy. It’s also their 4th FREE Sunday! Save this one for your summer museum day. Your kids will leave actually obsessed with bats. Trust me on this. Texas Science and Natural History Museum - 2400 Trinity Street Austin, Texas

From a chance discovery in Shoal Creek to one of the museum’s most remarkable fossils—meet the Shoal Creek Plesiosaur. 🌊 Discovered in 1990 by a local dentist and his son while searching for shark teeth, this ancient marine reptile was carefully excavated by a team of paleontologists led by our museum. Unlike many fossils found scattered apart, this skeleton remains articulated in the surrounding rock matrix, preserving important clues about how the animal looked and moved through the ancient seas of Texas. See the Shoal Creek Plesiosaur and more at Texas Science & Natural History Museum, on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin. #FossilFriday #ShoalCreekPlesiosaur #Plesiosaur #TexasPaleontology #TexasFossils #NaturalHistory #AncientTexas #UTAustin

In this free public program, explore how land management influences plant-pollinator interactions with Dr. Shalene Jha, biology professor at UT and Academic Director of Research at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Join us to discover how these complex ecological relationships shape the health of our ecosystems—and what they reveal about the future of biodiversity. This program includes a Q&A and a light reception. RSVP at sciencemuseum.utexas.edu or at the link in our bio.
