âBluebirdâ by @charlesbukowski.official
From Bokowskiâs âThe Last Night go the Earth Poemsâ, âBluebirdâ exposes the whiskey-soaked artistâs seldom-seen âvulnerable sideâ. CB uses a songbird as metaphor for his own sensitivity. He attempts to trap the bird within his heart, unable or unwilling to let it out. Nonetheless, this âBluebirdâ is still a part of him, only releasing in the confines of his own privacy. This clearly shows the inner vulnerability w/i the authorâan inexplicable weakness that brings out his innermost turmoil. CB believes his masculinity is at risk if he exposes the bluebird within him and uses all manner of distraction to dull the pain of having to do that.

âThe Snowman on the Moorâ
By Sylvia Plath
Plath's "The Snowman on the Moor" unfolds amidst the stark, #desolate landscape of a #moor, reflecting the tumultuous inner world of her protagonist. The poem delves into the emotional turmoil of a woman trapped in an #abusive relationship, her spirit #battered yet unyielding. She ventures out on to the moor, a symbol of her #isolation and despair, seeking solace or perhaps a #confrontation with her #tormentor.
The #snowman, a grim and imposing giant, embodies the cold, unfeeling nature of her abuser. His presence on the moor is both a physical and metaphorical barrier to her freedom. Her journey through the harsh terrain mirrors her internal struggle, as she grapples with feelings of anger, betrayal, & a desperate yearning for liberation.
In the end, the snow-man crumbles, a symbol for the potential dissolution of her oppressive circumstances. Yet, the poem leaves readers with a poignant sense of ambiguity, reflecting the complex & often unresolved nature of such personal battles. Plath's vivid imagery & emotional depth resonate profoundly, capturing the essence of human resilience and the quest for self-redemption.

Item #: SCP-8085
Object Class: Keter
SCP-8085 is a phenomenon affecting the Desert Grassland Whiptail Lizard (Aspidocelis uniparens), a species characterized by their all-female population and asexual reproduction. Due to SCP-8085, members of this species will emit vocalizations akin to those of a human once in their lifetime. These #vocalizations are incoherent, but have been described as â#distressingâ and â#painfulâ by witnesses.
Special Containment Procedures: Individuals who report arousal in the presence of desert grassland whiptail lizards are to be detained & interrogated. They are to be amnesticized or disposed of, if deemed necessary.
SCP-8008 was an Enochian anomalous event centered around one SCP-8008-2, a being that altered fundamental aspects of reality through use of extreme ontokinetic manipulation. Due to the following events, SCP-8085 is thought to have been partially affected by SCP-8008.
On 06/11/2023, during the routine inspection of the 500,000 corpses found in SCP-8008-A, an unusually large corpse of a desert grassland whiptail lizard was found, designated SCP-8085-α. The yellow lines on its loin spelled the following: vesta.txt.
The words in the âvesta.txtâ file were used as lyrics for this song.

âA Walk in Tsaileâ
By Jake Skeets
In this 2023 poem, Jake Skeets weaves a tapestry of imagery & emotion. The poem, much like the works of George Eliot, delves into the intricate relationship between the individual & their environment, exploring themes of memory, time, & the natural world.
Skeets begins with a vivid portrayal of the landscape, where âthe sun fails to make sense anymoreâ & âan insect buzzes in overgrown red bromeâ. This opening sets a tone of disorientation & reflection, inviting one to engage w/t ephemeral nature of existence. Skeetsâ use of sensory detailsâsight, sound, & touchâcreate an experience that is rich & immersive.
The poemâs flowing, stream-of-consciousness structure mirrors the meandering paths of memory & thought. Skeetsâ references to âa faded scarâ and âthe one I trace on your wrist sometimesâ dramatically evoke a sense of personal history & intimacy & spice things up.
As the poem progresses, Skeets introduces elements of the natural worldârabbits, bull snakes, & meteoritesâthat serve as metaphors for the passage of time & the interconnectedness of all things. The last line evokes Nick Caveâs âWhere the Wild Roses Growâ though w/admittedly less overt violence.

âMy Life Had Stood â A Loaded Gunâ (764)
By Emily Dickinson
This is a clever composition of six stanzas, each comprising four quatrains. The poem, like much of EDâs work, is #untitled and is often referred to by its opening line or the number #764. This was a common practice for ED. The structure of âMy Life had stood â a Loaded Gunâ does not adhere to a singular rhyme scheme. Instead, it features a blend of half/slant and full #rhymes interspersed throughout. For example, in both the first and final #stanzas, the second and fourth lines exhibit rhyme.
ED employs a variety of images, with the #gun being the most significant. Regardless of oneâs interpretation of this piece, the âgunâ invariably symbolizes #power. Guns inherently carry a sense of #danger, & in this context, it serves as a metaphor for the speakerâs life & the potency of her words.
#Nature is also pivotal in the text. There is a #hunted â#Doe,â the presence of night, & a reference to Mount #Vesuvius. The speaker utilizes repetition to depict the relentless process of hunting in the âSovereign Woods.â It is crucial to understand what hunting represents: it is simultaneously a destructive sport, a vital skill, & an outlet for anger. The #doe, as the #female focus of the speakerâs wrath, is also significant. While reading this piece, one must consider the various interpretations it invites. The â#Ownerâ and â#Masterâ can symbolize #God, a #domineering #lover, or the speakerâs own #fury.

âTimber Radio Interferenceâ
Source: Sorceress Adelâs Tomb.
The reason for the radio interference first seen in Timber and later around all of #Gaia, is Sorceress Adelâs tomb, which, orbiting the planet, interferes with the radio waves and fills all frequencies with noise. This led to most wireless technology being abandoned, and facilities, such as the Communications Tower in Dollet and the TV Station in Timber, fell into disuse.
The electromagnetic interference (EMI) translates to:
I AM ALIVE HERE
BRING ME BACK THERE
I WILL NEVER LET YOU FORGET ABOUT ME
I WILL NEVER LET YOU BOUND ME BACK

âDarknessâ by Lord Byron (George Gordon)
Written completely in #blankverse, â#Darknessâ by #GeorgeGordon, a/k/a #LordByron, taps into a #fear for the #future of the #humanrace through an almost â#epicâ style of #poeticstorytelling. This poem was written in July of #1816 runs for a total of 82 lines many of which end abruptly, allowing the thought to go into âdarknessâ before being picked back up in the next line. Byronâs âDarknessâ is considered one of the most well written poems on the theme of doom.
The poem begins with a description of the sun, stars, and moon being #extinguished and the earth being left to stumble through space without direction. All of the people of the earth have been #doomed to live in darkness. They burn everything around them, from palaces to huts and eventually religious materials. They are #desperate for any kind of light to see by.
All are made equal by this darkness, kings are brought to the level of peasants and all suffer together. The men burn the forests and weep as they go out. Some are driven mad by the eventual starvation they will, and do, face. The beasts of the forest become tame but are slaughtered by the men and all âsateâ themselves for what will be one of the last times. Many men die from starvation until all the world is reduced to two men that become enemies.
These men find themselves at the same âaltar-placeâ amongst the ashes of religious items. They manage to start a small fire and are horrified to see one another, dying right thereof fright. The human race is now extinct, as are herbs, animals, and all plants. All water is still and the tides no longer go in or out because the moon is long since âextinguishâd.â The clouds are gone, useless to the darkness which is now ââŠthe Universe.â

âTo Fill a Gapâ (546)
By Emily Dickinson
When something significant enough is missing, ED says nothing but the Thing that caused the Gap will help. Sometimes the thing we need is not available to âsolder the Abyssâ we face. Dickinsonâs only solution is to learn to live without, rather than trying to fill the Gap with too much other that will only make it âyawn for moreâ.

Sonnet 19: âWhen I consider how my light is spentâ a/k/a âOn His Blindessâ
By John Milton
In âWhen I consider how my light is spent,â #Milton reflects on #blindness. This was an important topic for him, since he lost his own #sight in the mid-1650s. Milton was a writer & translatorâsomeone who relied on his eyes. Yet though blindness would have presented a number of practical problems, in this poem Milton focuses on the #spiritual issues associated with blindness: the #poemâs speaker believes that he or she should use his or her talents as a writer to serve God, yet the speakerâs blindness makes this impossible. This implicitly calls into question the demands that God places on human beings, yet any tension is resolved by the end of the #sonnet: the speaker ultimately asserts that people best serve God through faith, rather than work.
For a devout Puritan like Milton, this is a potentially blasphemous position. The speaker is in danger of thinking that he or she knows better than Godâan all-knowing being. & the speaker imagines that the way to please God is through workâa position associated with Catholicism. Itâs important to note that Milton himself despised Catholicism & regularly attacked the Church. As the speaker articulates frustration w/God, the speaker strays into what the poem will ultimately deem a serious errorâsomething the rest of the poem will be dedicated to correcting.
After the speaker articulates these frustrations with being blindâ& lapses into a dangerous, almost blasphemous argument with Godâa new voice enters the poem, which the speaker calls â#patience.â This #allegorical figure notes that #God doesnât require human work or human gifts. Instead, the best way to secure salvation is simply to obey God. The voice suggests that this obedience is âmildâ and, perhaps more importantly, flexible. It means different things for different people: while some âspeed ⊠oâer Land and Ocean,â others âstand and wait.â Yet both are, or can be, forms of service.

âAs the Starved Maelstrom Laps the Naviesâ (872)
By Emily Dickinson
In #natureâs #wild #heart, #HUNGER prowlsâa #primal force. The #maelstrom #devours ships, #gnawing timbers until they vanish. Cruel-eyed #vultures seek isolated #broods. #Language here is #unflinching, #stark. Delicate hunger emerges, refined like moonlit petals. #Enjambment pulls us forward, urgent. âAsâ echoes, binding #predator to #prey. Even the speaker, refined, succumbs. No resolution; only #finality and #despair.
Unlike sun-kissed fields, this poem wears a darker shroud. It lacks optimism, confronts harsh realities. Ink spills truth, revealing a hunger that binds us allâpredator and prey, delicate and fierce. â€ïžâđ„đïž
