The Giovane Residency is aimed at young artists carrying a project at a key moment in their personal and professional journey. Open throughout the year, for stays of 1 to 6 months, it offers time for research, creation, and immersion in the collective life of the Villa. In this spirit, a contribution of 15 hours per week is required in support of shared activities: gardening, agriculture, DIY projects, and maintenance of the site. ‼️ Travel and food expenses are to be covered by the artist. 👉 For any information: [email protected]

It was a great pleasure to host Daphné Budasz (doctor of history, specialist in Europe’s colonial past and its memory) and Frédéric Choffat (filmmaker and photographer whose documentaries have often engaged with the theme of contemporary migration). Together, they are developing a transdisciplinary artistic project, Sono di Mai Mine, a work that explores questions of memory, Italian colonization, post-colonial migration, and the literal and metaphorical crossing of the Mediterranean space. A poetic reflection on the limits of our own position and the desire for resistance. During their ten-day residency at Villa Iblea, they carried out research on the material traces of colonialism and the immaterial traces of contemporary migration in the Ragusa region.

We are delighted to welcome Mathilde Liaboeuf (born in 2000 in Boulogne-Billancourt), a 2025 graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Nantes. Her practice lies at the intersection of writing, performance, and theater. She is interested in the ways language slips away—when text escapes, unravels, and reassembles elsewhere. During her residency at Villa Iblea from October through the end of November 2025, she continues her exploration of writing as a form of passage. Drawing inspiration from the Tarot de Marseille, she is developing a narrative form that questions how a text moves, fractures, and reorganizes itself within a stable structure. Her current project stages a quest: that of a girl and her prophet, in a desert that is both real and symbolic. Through it, Mathilde examines the frameworks of speech and the forms of authority at work in writing, opening up the possibility of a thought in motion. #artesicilia #sicilyart #artresidencies #residencesdartistes #ecolebeauxartsnantes
