On the African savanna, power is a fine balance. Lions are masters of speed and savagery, but robust buffalo have an iron will to match their steely horns. In a battle between these grassland giants, who will win? 🦁🐃(link in bio) #buffalo #lion #savanna #africa #wildlife #terramater #terramatters

Do you know how the movie “Light on Earth” was filmed? 🌍💡 During filming, a unique, ultra-sensitive low-light camera was used. The light passed through one lens and was then split between two cameras. One camera captured infrared light, while the other recorded bioluminescence. These two layers were later combined to reveal glowing life in a way never seen before. The filmmakers did not only capture animals on land, but also dove deep into the ocean to show its hidden beauty. Isn’t it fascinating how one camera setup could capture such natural wonders? If you want to see more glowing miracles of our planet, watch the full documentary on our YouTube channel 🤗🤍

Our New World - The Carbon Hunters takes home the Climate Action Prize at Ökofilmtour 2026 in Potsdam, Germany!🥳✨ This prize recognizes a film for it’s relevance and contributions to climate action, a topic we hold dearly here at Terra Mater Studios. The third episode of Our New World explores just that, focusing on the climate heroes who are paving the way to a better future across the globe. The @oekofilmtour Jury said that in the film “passionate researchers explain their methods and findings in a clear and vivid way, but above all, they show us effective solutions.” Thank you to the Jury for this recognition, and congratulations to our fellow winners!🤗🤍 📸©Terra Mater Studios GmbH+ Boréales A Boréales / Federation Studio / Lionfish / Terra Mater Studios co-production with the participation of France Télévisions, CNC, Ushuaia TV and RTS Radio Télévision Suisse

🎥 Meet “Bertha”, the Camera! As part of our BTS series, we’re sharing a small sneak peek from our behind-the-scenes film. David Attenborough’s Light on Earth takes you into a world you usually can’t see. Filming this required special technology and Bertha played a big role in capturing these moments. It’s always fascinating to see how documentaries like this are made and what goes on behind the camera. This film is a perfect example, pushing the limits of how we capture the natural world 👀✨ You can watch the full documentary on our YouTube channel.

Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David Attenborough!🥳🤍 Today we celebrate an incredible 100 years of curiosity, wonder, and love for the natural world. For generations, David has helped us see the beauty of our planet in a new way, from the smallest creatures to the vast landscapes around us. His voice has guided us, taught us and reminded us how important it is to care for the Earth. But beyond the films, he is known for his kindness, his warmth and his genuine passion for what he does. Even after a lifetime of storytelling, his enthusiasm still shines through in every word. A true inspiration, a voice that has shaped how we see the world. And a legacy that will continue for years to come. Thank you, David! 🎥 Check out our YouTube channel to watch films narrated or featuring David.

Nature doesn’t need electricity to glow✨ Across the planet, species have evolved to create their own glow: to hunt, to communicate, to disappear, and to survive. Hidden in forests and the depths of the ocean living light flickers, pulses and glows. Tiny larvae weave glowing traps, fireflies speak in flashes and entire shorelines shimmer with every movement. If you found it interesting, don’t miss out on watching the whole documentary. You can watch “David Attenborough’s Light on Earth“ on our YouTube channel. The premiere is on the 7th of May at 15:00 Vienna time. Did you know that scientists only discovered sperm whales communicate in the 1950s? 🌊 Even more fascinating, it’s now scientifically proven that they have different accents. You can tell which family group a whale belongs to just by their clicks. It’s almost like trying to understand an alien. Now, we’re finally getting closer to translating what they are saying. David Gruber from @projectceti joined us to talk about sperm whale communication in our latest Not a Biologist episode. Check out the full episode on our YouTube channel 🐋🎬

Did you know how ants were filmed in Attenborough’s Ant Mountain?🐜 Filmmakers used a special camera they named Frank. It’s a large and complex machine that allows ants to be filmed in motion without harming or disturbing them. Despite being incredibly useful, Frank is quite difficult to maintain, and things don’t always go as planned. One fascinating fact about this camera is that the lens used is exactly the same as the one found in our smartphones. Can you imagine? If you want to see how Frank did its job, watch the full documentary on our YouTube channel!🤗🤍
