When our second car gave up, we decided not to replace it. Instead, we went for something a little different — a cargo e-bike. A more sustainable, more affordable option that saves on fuel and, honestly, brings a bit of adventure into our everyday 🙌
We chose the Tern Quick Haul Long from our local bike shop, @GhyllsideCycles , and set it up for family life — two seats on the back for the girls, (ours are @bobike.official - gifted) plus the sunshade and storm shield to handle all the Lake District weather 🌦️
Six months in, and it’s completely changed the game for us. Even the nursery run feels like something to look forward to. The girls absolutely love it and even little Lyra knocks on the window to get outside when I wheel the bike over 🥰
It’s already taken us on so many little local adventures and with summer around the corner, there are even more on the horizon.

For the win!
Genuinely though, this was the exact reason we chose a @ternbicycles cargo bike in place of a second vehicle.
The points were:
- To slow down and not always feel the need to do something grand
- To make the journey as fun as the destination
- To fully appreciate and utilise our mobility
- To be more present with the boys
- To do our bit for the environment
- And ultimately to save money
To be honest, we arrived back from California last May and bought the bike within 4 days of landing! However, I’d said to my husband “let’s just see how the summer goes” with the low-key intention of buying a car at the end of September, but with the incredible range of accessories, it was really easy to build the bike out in a way that felt bespoke to our needs.
We have a fantastic overhead canopy (storm shield) that encloses the boys to protect them from the bitter cold and sideways rain, and the multiple storage compartments and compatibility with our Thule Chariot, has meant that we can pull along our little garage for use to transport extra gear, as and when we need.
You guys know how much I love it, yet this week really had me realising that we can live without two vehicles thanks to our @ternbicycles

As savage as it is filling up the tank in the van atm, it’s made a lot less soul destroying, by the fact that our other mode of transport is a @ternbicycles cargo bike!
Plus, when I use it to do the food shop and run errands, I’ve noticed I’m way more mindful about what I’m buying too, because I only buy what we need.
In my slightly chaotic little mum life…
these days just bring everything down a notch and despite taking a bit more effort to get going, it is always far more rewarding than taking the van.
I don’t know about you, but time outside + quality time with my little mate + a good amount of movement = the sort of high vibes that make an otherwise regular day of motherhood, extraordinary!

New Bike Day hits different when you’ve got your 2.5-year-old riding shotgun on the hype 🚲.
Picked up a new @ternbicycles HSD from @citybiketampa but the real highlight wasn’t the bike—it was sharing it with my smallest and best homie.
Brought the bike home and immediately went through a full inspection process conducted by someone who still eats snacks off the floor.
Took it out for a ride and got some really helpful performance feedback from my regional manager:
“Faster.”
“Not like that.”
“1,2 blastoff!”
New bike is cool, but having a tiny, chaotic co-pilot who thinks you’re the greatest thing ever (as long as you maintain speed)? Elite.
My only regret is not buying this sooner. The bike rips. E assist and belt drive on an internal geared hub is crazy nice. This thing is like the Land Cruiser of the dad bike world.
