🔥Hot off the press for patients with Occipital Neuralgia and chronic migraines/headaches:
Muscle fascia may be more important mediating pain than we thought:
In our study, we analyzed trapezius fascia samples from patients with occipital neuralgia and compared them to control patient tissue.
What we found was striking:
• The trapezius fascia is richly innervated
• Patients with ON showed a 71% increase in nociceptive nerve fibers that mediate pain
• There was significant upregulation of CGRP, a key mediator of pain signaling and a key target of migraine drugs
These findings suggest that the trapezius fascia is not just structural tissue — it may play a direct role in pain generation and peripheral sensitization which has never been shown.
Understanding this neurobiology may help guide future targeted treatments for nerve-related headache pain.

Facelift results could last longer soon: This new study shows that photochemical tissue passivation (PTP) makes facelift tissues stronger, helps sutures hold better, and could mean fewer revisions down the road. Early tests in humans and animals found much higher suture resistance and less sagging after surgery—suggesting PTP might give facelifts a more durable future. Clinical trials are next to confirm! Please join us in congratulating Dr. Vlad Tereshenko, the recipient of the first GNF Young Investigator Award!! 👏 Dr. Tereshenko is a Postdoctoral Fellow under the mentorship of Dr. Kyle R. Eberlin, MD at Harvard Medical School. His research project will identify molecular markers of painful neuromas to assist in future treatments. Watch the video below to learn more!
Thank you to everyone that submitted an application! We will be announcing our next grant cycle soon!
And a special thank you to our Research Committee who managed the process and reviewed the LOIs and applications. 🙏

Skeletal muscles can act as biological amplifiers of neural information from the spinal cord following targeted muscle reinnervation with a powerful motor nerve. These neural signals can be decoded and mapped in a high-resolution manner, aligning with the motor commands from the brain, to create a reliable biological interface for high-fidelity control of a bionic prosthesis.
