Professor Oliver Hahl co-authored a paper in Management Science that asks why some purpose-driven recruitment efforts work and others fall flat. Applicants see purpose statements as authentic when a company has the capacity to follow through.
Purpose is more likely to attract talent when it’s backed by the capacity to deliver. To stay credible, firms need to align their public aspirations with the infrastructure, affiliations, and track record of success. Without that foundation, mission statements are often seen as cheap talk and discourage rather than recruit talent. Check out the full video at the link in our bio.

In the International Consulting Experience, students from Carnegie Mellon’s Pittsburgh and Qatar campuses come together to work in global teams on real client engagements.
Throughout the semester, they partner with companies based in the Middle East, building skills in strategy, analysis, and cross cultural collaboration that extend far beyond the classroom. The course is taught by both Assistant Teaching Professor of Strategy at the Tepper School of Business in Pittsburgh, Rima Bhattacharyay, and Hussein Fadlallah, Assistant Teaching Professor of Management at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.
