This Poem is called “Sounds” ✨

It was my way of processing experiencing discrimination at an “inclusive” theatre company that works with children and young people.
I was employed because I had experience of migration, and most of the participants were migrants themselves, yet in a feedback session me and my colleague were told: “You have an accent, and it’s hard to understand you sometimes”.
I couldn’t express into words for a few months how much this experience has affected my mental health, but also how poorly it was dealt with when I opened up to her about it… but after sharing this with friends (thanks for listening to my hurt soul 🫶🏼), sessions over sessions in therapy and time (time’s a healer)…this poem poured out of me and arrived just like this 🙃

I’ve been using poetry as a tool to process and heal from moments of being hurt and from traumas… and the way this poem always picks me up when I’m down is a gift I’ll always be grateful for! 🧡 above all I’ve got myself ✨

Nobody’s perfect, everyone makes mistakes, but it’s actually how we own up to our mistakes and learn to be more aware and kinder towards one another that makes a difference! ✨

The show follows a group of young people fighting to save their beloved Community Centre — the beating heart of a local neighbourhood that faces closure under the mayor’s new development plan. Told with humour, rhythm, and heart, the production celebrates local pride, collective creativity, and the power of unity through music, dance, and storytelling.
