EASA: a self-organized architectural education phenomenon: since 1981 each summer more than 400 students meet for two weeks in a different location. They all work, study, rest, cook, eat, clean and live together. They explore alternative forms of architectural thinking and practice outside of the traditional university context. Students take the delivery of their education into their own hands.
EASA declares its success due to “more than the simple addition of individual factors. It is the whole process, the chemistry of being together”, or the EASA spirit.
What brings motivation in 400 individuals to contribute in such an intense way to
their own education? Does it still question conventional structures in formal, institutionalised learning? Is it still progressive and alternative to traditional architecture education?
In 2018 an event took place in a mountain hut aiming to reflect on these and more questions. The event explores continuity on different scales through the prisms of architecture and the connections inbetween. The focus falls on learning territories, social activism, exploring and rethinking the coexistence between human and nature.

There are good days. Recently, a project we are working on for the last 2 years entered its construction phase. This gave us a chance to expand our team. We will be practicing architecture, crafting, debating and other functions while building a district out of shipping containers.
@un_controlled_reality After many easa summers and autumns there was no real reason for going back to this event. But the holistic approach to the theme of reality created several good things. Some of them visible, others a bit hidden. But all very true and pure. Self education and self organisation, once again, were proven as vital parts of our path. I’ve learned a lot about adaptation, communication, posters, memory and relationships. Follow @un_controlled_reality for some thoughts on the process on how a group, a collective could be created.
On the picture you see a poster wall that works as a small intervention. It has a strong functional idea but also work as memorial made by the posters we found in the old tech school in Kragujevac. Strong gratitude for @easaserbia . It’s always good to see 2years of hard work becoming real.
