Teodóra Szabó Tönki
About the artist
Her work begins with jewelry, yet its goal is never jewelry itself. These objects do not decorate; they mediate. They carry inner states, psychological processes, and the shifting landscapes of an invisible interior world. For her, jewelry is not an object but a medium — a wearable thought.
Her artistic path originates in the disciplined, industrial precision of classical jewelry making. Growing up in a family workshop, she learned respect for form, responsibility toward materials, and the inner logic of structure.
The years she spent in Florence, and her studies at Academy Le Arti Orafe and Istituto Polimoda, reinforced a vision in which tradition is not an endpoint but a point of departure. Contemporary jewelry, for her, is not a style but a way of thinking: it asks questions rather than offering answers; it reveals rather than illustrates.
Materials are always chosen consciously and remain subordinate to the concept. Metal, textile, stones, and beads are not decorative elements but carriers of meaning. The structures often appear both protective and vulnerable, closed and permeable — much like inner worlds.
STATEMENT
The collections Soul Grid Transformations and Soul Veils represent stages of an inner journey. In these works, the layers of the psyche, its defense mechanisms and its delicate transparencies take physical form. An inner landscape is drawn in metal: not depicted, but made perceptible.
The surface becomes volume. The structure is empty, yet full of meaning. What is invisible is just as important as what can be seen. These objects do not close; they open — a dialogue between the wearer and their own inner world.
