My first shot at gouache is a liiiittle rough. I need to get a smaller brush for details and a palette knife or something to keep colors from mixing when I’m swabbing for some more. A lot to learn and improve on!

Man I’m totally into #taylorham egg and cheese sandwiches lately.

Timing is key but you can do it in the time it takes to toast an English muffin so do that first, get the English muffin going to a nice medium brown in the toaster. Slice 3 edges of the ham so it doesn’t balloon like balogna, brown it a bit in a lightly oiled nonstick pan then throw on some cheese. Cheddar, American? I don’t think it matters so long as it’s good. Do that old diner trick where you put a few drops of water in the pan and cover it so the steam melts the cheese. While that’s going on in the same pan on the other side fry an egg to medium. The English muffin should just be popping up so slather both of sides of it with mayo and mustard and assemble.

Thats it, that’s the perfect breakfast sandwich.

In these trying (post?) apocalyptic times I decided to try out making bread. I went with Jim Lahey’s no knead Dutch oven recipe. Barely 15 minutes hands on time, so easy! Unintended bonus— the house now smells like fresh bread.

Texasy BBQ Sauce
1/4 white onion small dice plus a knob of butter until sweated
1 1/2 c ketchup
1/3 c apple cider vinegar
1/2 Tbsp light brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
1 1/2 tsp black pepper
1 Tbsp chili powder
1/2 Tbsp cumin
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp ground mustard
1 1/2 Tbsp Worcestershire
1/2 tsp cayenne
Simmer 15 mins then chill, good for 1 month in the fridge
