Kat and the limpid February light in the Temper Lab this morning. This is where we play - with ideas, materials and collaborators - to develop our particular way of seeing, making and presenting our very handmade objects. A haven for curious minds and restless hands.
Our made-to-order collections are the culmination of findings from our explorative work in sculpture, material combinations and techniques. Beautiful forms and material possibilities come out of that process and from there ideas for more developed designs are born, intentionally honed and refined into the details that shape each collection. These are produced in small numbers as made-to-order pieces.
Please get in touch if you’d like to visit the studio to explore the work.
Things have been gently evolving at Temper HQ and we wanted to say hello from our lab, studio and workshop in rural Wiltshire.
We are George Winks and Kat Prendergast, the minds and the hands behind Temper, alongside our wonderful makers, Luke and Wren.
George founded Temper 11 years ago.
His idiosyncratic, detailed aesthetic softens the binary between art and artisanship and forms the foundation of Temper’s explorative, process-led approach.
Our exploratory works inform and shape our own furniture collections. Alongside our made-to-order pieces, we work with private clients, architects and interior designers on private commissions and offer a selection of specialist finishes in carved wood, textured surfaces and patinated metals.
Drop us a message to arrange a visit to the studio or to discuss your project.

Some pieces outlive us and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. This jewellery box we made for Ebrahim was not about times gone by, but times to come – a keepsake for his daughter, memories for her to grow into. Sadly, Ebrahim passed away in 2024, but we remember his visits to us fondly, always bringing with him homemade Indian food – fragrant biryani and perfectly crunchy onion bhajis – with ‘secret sauces’ and spices he’d made and dried himself.
Before he passed, Ebrahim’s dream was to commission as many handmade objects and furniture for his new home as he could. Working closely with his daughter, we helped bring this dream to life – a large textured coffee table with our signature choppy waters finish, a kitchen table, and two chairs and benches inspired by our Plane Collection – that live on as family heirlooms.

We’ve been working closely with the Maggie’s Cancer Trust for several years now, making new furniture and sensitively adapting existing spaces to new needs across their 25+ centres around the UK
We love working with them and it’s a privilege to interact with such thoughtfully designed spaces.
Bringing a little light to the darker months, we’re now taking seasonal commissions for our Herbarium Lightbox.
Part of our new Herbaria collection, this is a project we’ve been teasing to life over the last year or so. Each lightbox memorialises a moment and place in time. We forage plants locally or guide you in your own foraging journey to pick plants from your garden or a place you love spending time in. We are completely enchanted by the way the light glows through them, illuminating the veins and cellular structures of the plants.
Thank you @courts_pj for sharing a picture of this lightbox in your home.
Our friends Andre and Jess’s self-built rural home – Clay Rise – in West Sussex has been short-listed for the prestigious Manser Medal - (winner announced tomorrow). We love the play on the region’s clay-tiled vernacular and the clever use of flowing forms and natural materials. It was a pleasure to see some of our pieces working so beautifully in the space.
In their own words: “Temper’s work sits at the meeting point of craft and contemporary design – traditional techniques reworked into sculptural, functional pieces. The crafted, textural richness of Temper’s pieces deeply resonates with the design ethos of Clay Rise, bringing a quiet tactility and sophistication to the interior”.
