Most cardiac arrests happen at home. The first person there is rarely a firefighter or paramedic. It’s often a spouse, parent, friend, neighbor or coworker. It’s you. Someone stepping in to give CPR during those first few minutes can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. That’s why Tempe Fire Medical Rescue is offering monthly $30 CPR and AED classes designed to help residents feel more prepared and confident during an emergency. Classes are taught by Tempe Fire paramedics with firsthand experience responding to cardiac emergencies. The next class is Saturday, May 30, from 9 - 11 a.m. Learn more and sign up at: https://bit.ly/49TiV9p

Saturday in the Park! 🌳 Meyer Park spans 8 acres, surrounded by the Rural Geneva, Hughes Acres and, of course, Meyer Park neighborhoods. Recent improvements include a complete renovation of the playground and lots of public art. The park is named after the Meyer School next door which, in turn, was named after Agnes and Albert Meyer. Agnes was a longtime teacher at the Rural School and her husband Albert served as a teacher, bus driver and custodian. #tempeparks #tempeplays #thingstodointempe

The Tempe City Council voted 6-1 on May 14 to place a 0.5% sales tax proposition on the Nov. 3 ballot to fund public safety, transportation and early childhood care and preschool education. The proposed Nov. 3 ballot measure would replace funding stripped from the budget by the state. This revenue would also stabilize funding for public safety and add funding for long-awaited transportation needs and create additional opportunities for free and reduced rate early childhood care and preschool education. Attend an informational meeting on May 20 (virtual) or June 10 (in-person at the library): hear presentations by staff and ask questions. These two meetings will cover the same information. Additional meetings will be held in the fall-- dates will be provided soon. Learn about the tax proposition, see meeting details and more at the link in our bio.

🦋Together, we can all play a part in supporting our monarch butterfly friends 🦋 Tempe has taken the Mayor's Monarch pledge, which means we are committing to planting milkweed and pollinator-friendly native nectar plants along roadsides, medians, or public rights-of-way. We are also engaging with Homeowners Associations (HOAs), Community Associations or neighborhood organizations to identify opportunities to plant monarch gardens and revise maintenance and mowing programs. You can learn more about what you can do at the link in our bio.
