The real job of a leader is not just to manage, it’s to develop other leaders. In this video, I share some important or practical ways that leaders can take note of, to ensure the leaders they are building up are confident, capable and empowered to own their roles. As you watch, ask yourself: ➡️ Do you tend to micromanage? ➡️ Do you give a free hand? ➡️ Or have you found the balance between the two? I’d love to hear your perspective in the comments.

Grooming Leaders: As leaders, one of our key responsibilities is to develop other leaders within our organization. The truth remains however that no matter how much you invest in people, they also have to be invested in their own self development and given to continuous growth or else they cannot truly develop into truly effective leaders. This is the story of Toyin Olajide the Head of Procurement at SKLD integrated Services Ltd. Toyin joined the company in 2017 as a client services officer and after some time of service moved over to the procurement department. She started her part time M.Sc Economics program as soon as she became the Procurement Officer and completed it in due course. When she took on this role, she applied herself totally and before long she was handling the major tasks in the department. She did this so well, that when her line manager resigned, management didn’t look elsewhere for the new head of department. She became the acting head. She excelled in this role, with the constant guidance of the Head of Commercial at the time and the Deputy Managing Director (now CEO). She was promoted to be the substantive head of the Procurement Department after proving her mettle. Over the years Toyin has continually invested in her personal development and yielded to mentorship from Senior colleagues. She plays a key role in the company having oversight of the purchases of all the our five divisions . Before long she started another Masters program - an Executive MBA and did very well. She was appointed to the Central Executive Committeeof the company early this year. Hers is a story , growth, opportunity, mentorship, determination , personal development and recognition. Join me in celebrating Toyin Olajide, #skldintegratedservices #growthjourney #meetthesklders #team #skld

My guest today is Temilola Adepetun, a seasoned entrepreneur, mentor, and business leader. — She tells me of her star child, Denola Grey, and how his stardom makes people often ask if she’s an actress because of the resemblance. — She opens up about facing fraud and difficult experiences that tested her trust and resilience. — She challenges the expectation that children must carry their parents’ dreams, insisting instead that everyone deserves their own path. — She remembers a terrifying moment in 2003 when her car was attacked and riddled with bullets, an experience that made her choose family first. — She speaks honestly about being handicapped and having to use a hearing aid, breaking the silence around stigma and choosing to live boldly and visibly. — She shares her passion for mentoring, supporting SMEs, and guiding others through life and business because the struggles within the Nigerian business world is worth sharing. — She reflects on moments of conflict that tested her leadership skills and the weight of being the one others look to for direction. Raw. Resilient. Authentic. — To watch, go to watch.withchude.com and to listen go to listen.withchude.com. Change is a process of birthing the new in place of the old. In my experience, putting structures in place often reveals the true pulse of your team. You’ll find those who are eager to evolve (they deserve your grace) and those who will try to block the path of change and improvement. I’ve learned that as a leader, you have to be two things at once: *A Teacher:* Providing context, answering the “why” and fostering cooperation, alignment and cohesion within the team during change processes. *A Guardian:* Protecting the vision from those who try to sabotage the process of neccesary growth and improvement. Do not get so lost in the grand idea of putting structures in place that you leave your people behind. Carry them along intentionally.

Today, Mother's Day, I pay tribute to my amazing and loving mother, late Margaret Sosan. My nurturer, role model, confidant, teacher, disciplinarian…. She was so many things to me. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers for nurturing, sacrificing, loving unconditionally, and supporting your children in all circumstances. God bless and strengthen you. Your joy will always be full.
