Life’s been a little rough lately and I miss my Dad’s gentle guidance as I adult. 3 years feels like forever ago, but still somehow like yesterday. Tough day every year. Hope you’re resting.
Happy Heavenly Birthday to one of my greatest artistic influences. Tina Turner. Not because she was the most refined singer or precise dancer. But because I have never seen anyone - ANYONE - be so generous to an audience with their performance. It’s a lesson as a theatre maker that I’ve carried with me and try to impart onto any performer I work with as a director.
What a DAY!?! I actually took the time out of my Artistic Director duties to take a seminar with one of my mentors and friends, Charles Smith, as part of BabelFest at Red House Arts Center, Inc. - Definitely surreal to be in a classroom with Charles after 20+ years, but also so inspiring and revelatory. NEVER STOP LEARNING!
About last night! The official opening of BabelFest with a staged reading of Silhouettes, followed by a really meaning discussion of the new work with the audience, and the BabelFest Kick-Off Celebration was truly one of the highlights of my professional career.
Thanks to @shawntakespictures for capturing a slice of it.
Emotional Temar Alert: Last night felt like a dream come true. I got to walk from one rehearsal space to another, each one buzzing with a different show in the works. The creativity and energy in the air was so moving. It was an unforgettable experience. #Babelfest #ArtisticDirector
