What a concert last night! Thank you, Min Kwon for putting together your monumental America/Beautiful project! Me, my students, and my colleagues were inspired by you and loved performing this powerful music with you! And thank you to Michael Gandolfi, Melinda Wagner, Peter Boyer, Samuel Zyman, Greg Sandow, Dave Ragland, Shulamit Ran, Christopher Trapani, Richard Danielpour, Reena Esmail, Vijay Iyer, Samuel Adler, Augusta Read Thomas, John Musto, Libby Larsen, Gyan Riley, John Harbison, Leila Adu Gilmore, Lei Liang, Victoria Bond, and Avner Dorman for your timeless pieces! Here is a little summary of Min’s project for those interested in learning more about it: “This project has grown into a multi-year commissioning initiative involving 76 composers from across generations and backgrounds, each re-imagining “America the Beautiful” for solo piano. The works explore themes of identity, migration, diversity, and belonging, and together they form a kind of living anthology of American stories and ideals.
