My solo show, Svila, opens tomorrow at Emma Scully Gallery.
I was asked to do this exhibition when I was very pregnant, without really understanding what it would mean to create a completely new body of work during the first months after giving birth. I was living inside a cocoon, where time moved differently. From that space, I turned to silk β a material that itself begins in a cocoon β and decided to explore it through a series of different objects.
This work is something Iβm very proud of because it required a very different headspace in order to complete it. It really reflects the place from which it was made, and for me it feels like a small personal achievement to have succeeded in it.
The work is delicate, and full of details that are difficult to fully translate through images, so I really hope people can experience it in person.
