48 years old. 24 years deep. 100+ records. 3 kids, 1 dog, 1 business, 1 label.
And I still f*cking love creating.
There’s something otherworldly that happens when I get out of the way long enough for the good stuff to come through.
I don’t think we make music.I think we channel it.
The real skill? Learning how to tune in — faster, deeper, sharper.
In my experience, it’s rarely the planned stuff that hits.
It’s the random sh*t. Happy accidents. Some weird little combo that tickles the creative g-spot.
And then... “Yeehah Grandma.” We’re off to the races.
But here’s the truth: About 3 years ago, I lost my way.
I’d started coaching other music makers — and coaching wasn’t new to me (I’ve had coaches since forever)… But being the coach? That was different. It pulled me off track.
I never stopped writing music. But I stopped being intentional. Stopped valuing how it made me feel.
I was consistently inconsistent. AKA: half-arsing it.
That inner voice crept in: “You’re doing this coaching thing.” “You’re too old for this shit anyway, Tommy.” “Focus on the bizzzzniiiisssss.”
Like the bastard son of whispering Nick O’Teen & Kaa The snake from Jungle Book - I was hypnotised out of creating.
And I felt it, I was not myself.
In January 2024 I twigged — I had an epiphany: I’d been playing it safe. Hiding. Waiting. Not putting myself — or my music — out there.
So I made a commitment.
And things changed. The following year, I released with some exciting labels:
Kompakt, Mule Musiq, SUPERUNKNOWN. I shared music I was proud of — even when that inner whispering dickhead showed up.
For a while I thought I had to choose:
Music OR coaching.
Artist OR guide.
Creative OR grown-up.
But I don’t believe that anymore.
I believe this:
You’ve got to what makes you happy, not should… must
So these days, I try to do 3 things: 1. Write music I’m excited by (for spaces I’ve loved dancing in) 2. Share it with people, and reach out to those I admire (via Bandcamp/ email/DM) 3. Document the journey (mostly on socials + email)
And I want to share what’s working with a beautiful gang of weirdos inside my Unreasonable Artist Community.
To quote the great Rock James
“It’s a celebration bitches!”
Writing my own music - just for me.
Helping 10 other people get their music out - inside our community. LFG.

Made music for a decade. Couldn't bring himself to release it.
Then things started moving.

For years I thought getting signed would magically unlock some secret new level.
Turns out I had it &rse backwards 🫠
If you want to position your music so labels actually take you seriously, I’m running an Identity Workshop tonight inside my private community.
I’m opening a few paid guest spots this week & next.
Comment WORKSHOP and I’ll send the details.
Audio. Matters... like a LOT. BiTD / Watergate / Berlin… and yes, this photo was taken just after the ‘Mess Hall’ break finishes. So you know, feelsAREreals.

So that’s a thing.

Incredibly it’s been almost two decades since @teemango_ and I last linked up under the Deadset moniker…
A big thank-you to him, and to the amigo who kindly bought me a Japanese release copy of Keys Open Doors (knowing I’d given away my last one). That little act lit the blue touch-paper on this go-around.
Same Deadset DNA, but new audio fire on the 'Mess Hall' do-over. Refreshed, refined, rebooted… and built to not only open doors, but minds, when the time is right.
Not said lightly either, and I’d honestly forgotten about his various supportive quotes and kind plays… Andrew Weatherall being a Deadset fan, with ‘Mess Hall’ as his favourite cut, is as meaningful and inspirational now as it was then.
Remembered, humbly, with a real sense of joy… and genuine sonic gratitude. Weatherall was of course (not just for Mango+Me), but for all, a man who made audio magic feel like the norm for an entire generation. Knowing that some creative we made together landed somewhere in that interstellar orbit, is something that feels as special now as it did then.
Big love to everyone who’s been asking about Deadset again. This EP is for all who were around the first time… and for the majority who probably were not.
Keys open doors… always have. ___
