A sequence of images to describe the colossal size of humpback whales. The calf was 18 feet long, weighing 4000 lbs, growing at a rate of 100 lbs per day. It was huge, curious, playful and enchanting. As I swam with it, I didn't realize I had drifted over the momma whose back was so wide that I thought it was a submarine. Pulling away, you can see the enormity of an adult humpback. Its pectoral fin is fully 1/3 its body length, a veritable wing. I had a moment of connection with this three-week old baby humpback whale while momma swam underneath. Eye to eye, mind to mind. Humpback calves are born 15 feet long and 2000 lbs and grow by 100 lbs each day.
