Ted Gioia Trio – The End Of The Open Road (Quartet Records – Q-1001LP, 1988 🇺🇸) @tedgioia writes insightfully about music (and beyond). That’s how I discovered him. His excellent jazz trio album from 1988, however, recently discovered me and it is excellent. Piano is wonderfully recorded; for those of us who play, it presents an accurate representation of the soundscape as heard from the pilot’s seat. I especially enjoy his original compositions. Bonus points too for the handwritten “promo” note. Whose handwriting is that, Ted? Remember, gang: folks who write about music often have the musical chops to back up their words, Ted sure does.
I'm very fortunate to have the support of the music writers in the Jazz Journalists Association—who have voted my newsletter The Honest Broker as the best blog of the year.
I'm sending out my thanks to all of them.
