In August 2020 I got a phone call from Kassa, he asked me to help cut up and “DJ” a little film he was working on with Sean and Lauren. I said yes immediately and was sent a hard drive with over 10 years of concert footage and material from 2020, the summer of closed clubs, when musicians could only play gigs on the street for whomever may be passing by.
This film will feel familiar to all who lived through the struggles of 2020 but it is not simply a revisitation of that period, it’s a commentary on pushing forward regardless of circumstance, with a focus on a community of artists who have always moved forward despite outside forces seeking to undermine their success.

“I Can't Lie” was written for B. Alexis’ son Ja’Mir “Loe Drxp” Johnson. In the lyrics she offers words of wisdom and harsh realities to help him navigate through life as a child with incarcerated parents. It's a song about the unbreakable bond of an incarcerated mother and her child and the loving transparency that's needed to withstand the physical distance.
Unfortunately, Ja'Mir will never hear this record. On February 1st, 2024, he was gunned down early in the morning at the school bus stop at 18 years old. 💔💔💔
B. Alexis has used her unspeakable pain to honor her son in many ways. Today would have been his 19th birthday and she has dropped this beautiful record in his memory. Please y'all, let's lift @b_alexis_91 up today by supporting this beautiful song. ❤️🩹 Happy heavenly birthday Ja'Mir 🕊🕊🕊
