Oops! a gap in the left side of my desk. My API 2500 is on sick leave. One of the 2520 op amps has gone pop. Easy diagnosis and fix: replacements arriving early next week.
Today I'm thinking of Martin Hummel who ran the Ubuntu label and music group. It's his requiem service today.
Martin was such a warm, lovely and charismatic man.
I’ve done maybe thirty or forty projects for Martin’s Ubuntu label, and so we spoke often on the phone.
On occasions he would come to sessions at my studio, and, he was a good hang, of course!
Any time I finished a call with Martin there would be a smile on my face.
He always made you feel special when he spoke with you. ‘Hey Peter, you’re my guy’ he’d say.
His enthusiasm, passion and love for music was incredible.
And he always tried to find a way to get a project over the line. He was never a quitter
I’ll miss him, an awful lot of people will miss him.
Rest now Martin.

Had a great afternoon visiting new vinyl pressing plant just 10 minutes away from us. I’ve already had several projects I mastered pressed there, and all absolutely excellent. Having met the team and toured the facility I’m not surprised. Proper attention to detail. More to follow…

Recording media old and new. You can fit a whole lot more audio in that hard drive - but how long will it last? The reels of Scotch tape at the back are nearly 55 years old and still play perfectly. Good luck getting anything off that hard drive in 50 years time….
