From our recent newsletter this is our ✨ Bailando Member Highlight ✨ Check out some Q&A with Jewels, our Production Manager, below!
Question: You started working as Bailando’s Production Manager this year; had you been involved with the Festival prior?
Answer: I first attended Bailando in 2018 as a student and became volunteer staff in 2019. In 2021 + 2022, I performed at the Festival with the TAMUCC Dance Company. During this time I also had the opportunity to work with multiple choreographers in the community on the lighting design for their pieces. 2023 marked my first official year as part of the production team as the Stage Manager, and am now happy to continue my involvement as the Production Manager!
Q: What brings you back to Bailando each year?
A: The community! I love the work I get to see and experience, as well as working with so many different wonderful artists. It has also been fun growing bonds with recurring artists as they return each year.
Q: How has Bailando impacted your career as a professional technician?
A: Bailando is a big contributor to the journey I am taking. Working with Bailando has given me the opportunity to expand as a technician/artist through my lighting designs as well as creating a well organized show as the stage manager. As I grow in my journey, I look forward to seeing Bailando grow more through the years.
Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?
A: I am currently based out of Texas, but love to travel for my stage management and technician work! Wherever I travel I try to take a dance class or see a show to experience art in other places.
