😈🔻A Rotary Obsession🔺👿
For Gabe Soner, the love for cars started young—late nights talking shop with mates, the thrill of a first drive, and that one car that stole his heart. That car was the Mazda RX-7 FD. The sleek lines, aggressive stance, and signature rotary scream had him hooked. The golden era of Japanese engineering and the raw, unfiltered driving experience sealed the obsession.
In 2018, Gabe made his dream a reality, purchasing an FD in rough shape. Six months later, the motor blew, prompting a full rebuild by Archie at Mazfix. Everything was refreshed—new studs, dowels, housings, end and center plates. The car was bridge-ported, flex-fuel ready, running a Haltech ECU, and boosted by a BorgWarner S369.
Next came bodywork and paint. Wanting something unique and exotic, Gabe opted for a wild color scheme and a full FEED widebody kit. Sitting on SSR Professor SP3s, the car had the aggressive stance he always envisioned.
Just as it was ready for the streets, insurance issues put the build on hold. Due to licence ‘complications’, no one would insure it, leaving the FD to sit in the garage for nearly five years. That changed in late 2024 when Gabe finally got it insured and wasted no time making up for lost driving.
The journey isn’t over. In 2025, the FD will get an even larger, more modern turbo, a built rear end, a sequential gearbox, bigger brakes, and other supporting mods. The goal? An absolutely insane street car.
Adding to the car’s legacy, it was once featured in Fast Fours magazine and even sports an interior signed by Mad Mike Whiddett.
Outside of cars, Gabe is a financial trader and property developer—nine years in the markets, six in real estate. Work is his grind, but his passion lies with his FD. With any free time, he’s either with close friends, family, or out thrashing the RX-7, because at the end of the day, it’s all about driving and enjoying every second of it.
