I was so proud watching them quickly grasp the tool and concept and without being asked eagerly reach back to ensure their peers - their friendly competitors - were learning alongside them. Seeing the surprise and excitement at the end of the session when they learned, not only did they walk away with an outstanding shoe design, but they will also receive customized Xbox’s inspired by their unique creations! 🎮 When my twin passions - philanthropy and gaming - converge like this, it’s a reminder of the magic we can create. Truth be told i cried during production, post production and even watching the final product. Just in time for Father’s Day i suppose. What an amazing experience to be able to do this with my father. Although I cannot physically be near him, we leveraged the technology we could to be together. I pride myself on many things , but if I’ve inherited anything from my father it’s always finding a way. As we come out this pandemic. We talk a lot about games as entertainment. We don’t talk enough about games as healing. In our latest Black Game Pros Sessions conversation, @tech_picasso shared something that stopped me in my tracks. After returning from deployment, she and her fellow Marines sat down together and played Unpacking (https://lnkd.in/epCZixXg). Yes. A quiet indie game about unpacking boxes. But they turned it into something deeper. As they moved from childhood rooms to adult spaces inside the game, they asked themselves: What are you still carrying? What haven’t you processed? Which box is it in? And somewhere in the middle of that simple mechanic, something shifted. They weren’t just unpacking digital objects. They were unpacking memory. Trauma. Identity. That’s when she knew. Games are not just content. They are tools. For education. For connection. For healing. And she connected that moment back to her Final Fantasy community. In the military, especially under Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, people could only see the parts of her she allowed them to see. Her gaming community saw all of her. That’s powerful. If you’re in this industry and still think games are “just games,” I’d encourage you to watch this clip. Because sometimes the most transformative spaces don’t look like therapy rooms. Just Left CES in Las Vegas got to pull up with my fellow Board Members to Support @erinteague Being the Amazing Dynamic Leader She is. , Worked on the Dissertation edits, Congratulated @vytamin_c on being an amazing human being and doing everything she said she would. Spent time with the Cat and the Kid . it’s always USC Women’s Basketball over anything else ✌🏽🫶🏽🏀!!! Shipped the kid to the east coast for some aunt and cousin time. And announced my new thing 🤞🏾🐢.
