“Seek first the kingdom of God” – Matthew 6:33 (Part 1)
Jesus wasn’t giving a suggestion. He was giving an order of life.
The word “seek” in Greek is ζητέω (zēteō) — it means to actively pursue, to desire, to require, to strive after. Not casually. Not when it’s convenient. It’s intentional pursuit.
And “first” is πρῶτον (prōton) — first in priority, first in rank, first in importance.
The “kingdom” is βασιλεία (basileia) — the reign, rule, and authority of God. Not just heaven one day. His rule in your life right now.
So Jesus is saying:
Make the rule of God your first pursuit. Above money. Above security. Above relationships. Above reputation. Above your own understanding.
And we see this throughout scripture : • Deuteronomy 6:5 — Love the LORD with all your heart, soul, and strength • Jeremiah 29:13 — You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. • John 17:3 — Eternal life is knowing Him.
Seeking the Kingdom is relational. It’s intimacy. It’s surrender. It’s saying, “Father, Your will before mine.”
“And His righteousness” – Matthew 6:33 (Part 2)
Righteousness isn’t vague goodness. It’s covenant alignment.
The Greek word for righteousness is δικαιοσύνη (dikaiosynē) — meaning uprightness, justice, conformity to God’s standard.
God’s standard has always been His commandments (Deuteronomy 6:25 — “Then it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to observe all these commandments before the Lord our God, as He has commanded us.”
But Scripture also tells us: • Romans 3:22 — The righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ. • 2 Corinthians 5:21 — We become the righteousness of God in Him.
So how do these fit together without contradiction?
Faith in Jesus brings justification — we are declared righteous, it is positional
Obedience is the sanctification — we walk it out everyday, it is experiential
Ephesians 2:8–10 shows both:
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
We are NOT saved BY good works.
We ARE saved FOR good works.
1 John 2:3–4 makes it plain:
We know Him if we keep His commandments.
Righteousness is not self-effort.
It is not law without Messiah.
It is not grace without obedience.
It is faith that produces obedience (Romans 1:5).
Salvation and obedience are not enemies — obedience flows from salvation.
When we seek His righteousness, we are seeking to live in alignment with His Word, empowered by His Spirit.
“And all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33 (Part 3)
Context matters.
In Matthew 6:25–32, Jesus is talking about food, drink, clothing — daily provision. The necessities of life.
This is not a prosperity promise.
It’s a provision promise.
Psalm 34:9–10 — Those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
Philippians 4:19 — God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory.
Proverbs 10:3 — The LORD will not allow the righteous soul to famish.
When your life is ordered correctly ->
Relationship first.
Righteousness pursued.
Obedience flowing FROM faith.
Then provision becomes God’s responsibility.
Not always what you want.
Not always when you want it.
But always what you need according to His will.
Matthew 6:33 isn’t about getting things.
It’s about alignment.
And when you’re aligned with the King,
The King takes care of His children because that is what He promised us and He is a faithful God.
Your heart isn’t empty space, it’s soil.
And what you plant there, what you water, what you revisit… it will show up in your life.
Just as much as the healthy things produce fruit, so do the unhealthy things you entertain. Lies, insecurity, comparison, the music you listen to, the people you surround yourself with.
So be intentional. Not perfect, but aware.
Because what you entertain today will shape your tomorrow.
So today, be gentle but intentional.
Choose truth. Choose life. Choose what aligns with God, even if it feels small.
The harvest is coming, so make sure it’s one that brings peace. 🌱
Dear Papa,
You weren’t perfect, but you were a good man, solid, steady, and full of love. You always showed up for your family.
You were such a steady presence in my life, always there with open arms and a quiet kind of care. You looked out for me, made me feel safe, and maybe spoiled me a little too much lol but that was your way of loving. I’ll always be grateful for the warmth and security you brought into my life.
I still picture you pulling up in your blue pickup truck, that smile on your face, waiting for me after school. We’d drive slow, pointing out rhododendrons seeing who could count the most. Those simple moments replay in my mind, they meant more than I ever realized back then.
Walking into your house feels different now. It’s home, but it’s definitely quiet without you. Still, it will always hold a piece of you and all our memories that were filled with love even if there was some yelling involved lol
I thank God for blessing me with such a good Papa. You loved well. You took care of us. And I’m so grateful I got to tell you thank you before the Lord finally allowed you to rest.
I miss you, Papa. I love you more than I ever truly expressed.
Love, your girl 💕
Finally was able to catch up on my July/August scrapbooking 🩷 God is always good!
I usually like to use the song that I’ve been playing on repeat for the month but Ig doesn’t have it 🙄
I’ve definitely found myself feeling as though I’m behind in life especially when we can so easily see where the people around us are at in their lives.
But just because it’s taking longer than you thought doesn’t mean you’re forgotten. God hasn’t lost track of you, He’s working behind the scenes, lining things up for the right time.
Our timing and understanding are not His, for He is greater and has better plans for us than we can imagine. Just think of all the times you’ve thought, “I’m glad God didn’t give me that when I thought I wanted it, because I wasn’t ready.”
Our Heavenly Father knows us better than we even know ourselves and we are never delayed, for His timing is perfect!
He loves you and has a plan, a hope, and a future for you. Trust in the One who knows best 🩷

“‘How do you believe in a God you can’t see?”
But I do see Him. I see Him in the sway of the trees, in my best friend’s smile, in sunlight dancing on the water.
I hear Him in the song of the birds, in a stranger’s joyful laughter, in the voice of someone I love.
I feel Him in the breeze against my skin, in the warmth of the sun, in the very breath within me.
Everywhere I look, His love is written in it all 🩷✨
