“What is left when nothing is left?
Can you conquer something that resists till the end?
What if you flood it, what if you burn it?”
The Hollow Land is a choreographic response to war’s destruction of both people and nature, rooted in the collapse of the Kakhovka Dam in the South of Ukraine.
In a time of climate crisis and war, the work asks: how far do the consequences reach, when nature knows no borders?

Unfortunately, we have to cancel tonight’s performance “The Hollow Land” due to the weather. All ticket holders have been notified directly, and tickets have been refunded.
We apologize for the inconvenience. However, the police advise against unnecessary travel in Skanderborg Municipality, which means that neither artists nor volunteers are able to reach the venue today.

The piece takes its point of departure in the Russian destruction of the Kakhovka Dam in southern Ukraine, where the floodwaters swallowed cities, landscapes, and memories. In a time marked by climate crisis and wars, the piece explores how what happens in one place affects us all. Here, dance becomes a language of resistance where grief and hope can exist side by side.

It’s been 24 times over four seasons that we had privilege to share this work, and this time we heard from the audience members:

FLOWERS ALSO CRY” is a powerful contemporary dance performance that celebrates the untold stories of brave women in war. The performance explores diverse war experiences from loss, trauma and displacement to resistance and the will to carry on, from disbelief and alienation to the importance of compassion and support. “FLOWERS ALSO CRY” reminds us of the unwavering human spirit, even in the darkest of times.
“FLOWERS ALSO CRY” was awarded the European Charlemagne Prize for Youth in Denmark in 2024, has toured internationally and was presented as one of the main works at the Tampere Dance Current festival in Finland.
