🚨3,500 WORKERS WALK OUT AS BLET TEAMSTERS, UNION COALITION LAUNCH LIRR STRIKE🚨
Teamsters with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) at the Long Island Rail Road have launched a strike alongside their bargaining coalition of 3,500 workers from five unions.
The LIRR is the busiest commuter railroad in America, with 300,000 daily passengers. This is the first strike at the carrier in 32 years.
The Teamsters represent over 500 locomotive engineers at the railroad. They have gone three years without raises throughout the process of bargaining a new contract.
Teamsters locomotive engineers will stay on strike until they get the fair contract they deserve.
Teamsters General President Sean M. O'Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman joined ready-mix drivers represented by Teamsters Local 313 on the picket line today at Glacier Northwest, a CalPortland company, in Washington State. Teamsters at Glacier Northwest in Dupont began their unfair labor practice (ULP) strike against the company on April 1 after negotiations over a fair contract stalled. The drivers are fighting to address significant wage and benefit disparities with other CalPortland ready-mix drivers in neighboring King County.
Glacier Northwest Teamsters will remain on the picket line until management returns to good-faith bargaining and offers proposals that accurately reflect the importance and reliability of their work.
“If Glacier Northwest thinks it can disrespect our members, they’re sorely mistaken,” O’Brien said. “This company is learning the hard way that when you pick a fight with one Teamster, you answer to all of us.”
@amazonteamsters in New York City are about to pass the Delivery Protection Act, a new law that holds corporations accountable if they threaten public safety.
Now Amazon is spending millions of dollars to intimidate lawmakers into selling out everyday New Yorkers by putting corporate profits before common-sense public safety standards.
Don’t be swayed by Amazon’s lies. Stand with New York City workers in supporting the Delivery Protection Act!
Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien addressed the regular delegates meeting of Teamsters Joint Council 28 in Shelton, Wash., today. Joined by General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman and Joint Council 28 President Rick Hicks, O’Brien highlighted recent achievements across Washington State, Alaska, and Idaho and discussed upcoming priorities for the union. Teamsters in the Pacific Northwest have recently won record contracts for 400 waste workers at Recology, ratified a master agreement with huge gains at Republic Services, unionized the first unit of Costco drivers to ever organize in the U.S., and organized 500 workers at Lumen Field in Seattle into North America's strongest union.
"The Pacific Northwest is one of the strongest regions in the entire Teamsters Union," O'Brien said. "Over the last four years, the Teamsters have undergone a transformation. And Joint Council 28 has been a major part of that change every step of the way. You’ve recruited new members from every kind of employer and industry you can imagine. And when 1.3 million Teamsters stand together, there is nothing that can stop us."
Drivers at Sysco Western Minnesota, represented by Teamsters Local 120, have unanimously authorized a strike if the food service giant fails to deliver an acceptable collective bargaining agreement. Teamsters are demanding a contract with wages, benefits, and working conditions that meet or exceed the standards secured by thousands of Sysco Teamsters nationwide. The current agreement expires on May 17.
Sysco is one of the largest and most profitable food service providers in the United States. In 2025, the company posted net profits of $1.8 billion. Teamsters at Sysco Western Minnesota are fighting for higher wages, stronger retirement benefits, and affordable health care. If an agreement is not reached before the contract expires, workers are prepared to take action.
“Our members are fed up and ready to strike if Sysco refuses to respect the workers who make this company’s profits possible,” said Tom Erickson, President of Local 120 and Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division. “Across the country, Sysco Teamsters are raising standards and winning strong contracts. This company can absolutely afford to meet our demands, and management needs to understand these workers are prepared to fight for every dollar.”
The Teamsters Union strongly condemns Governor Abigail Spanberger for vetoing legislation that would have established and protected collective bargaining rights for public sector workers across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The legislation would have given state and local employees across Virginia the ability to collectively negotiate better wages, benefits, and working conditions. Gov. Spanberger’s veto is an upsetting setback for thousands of workers at a time when Virginia families are living with persistent inflation and rising costs for food, housing, and other basic necessities.
“Working people deserve representatives who will stand with them as they fight for a better future,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “The Teamsters will work with any Democrat, Republican, or Independent who is serious about protecting workers’ rights and defending collective bargaining. Unfortunately, Gov. Spanberger’s depressing actions in Virginia are an urgent reminder that unions and engaged citizens who care about labor rights must collectively demand more of our elected officials. We must never assume that lawmakers affiliated with any one political party are committed to standing with workers. We must build bipartisan coalitions that actually want to get something done for working Americans and have the backbone to do it.”
Throughout the legislative process, members of the Virginia General Assembly worked closely with the Teamsters and other unions to move this bill forward and defend the rights of public employees. The Teamsters thank the Virginia lawmakers who stood with workers, supported this important legislation, and recognized that collective bargaining is not a political bargaining chip, but a fundamental right that helps working families build stronger lives.
The Teamsters will continue the fight to secure collective bargaining rights for every public sector worker across Virginia.
Teamsters at KLS Logistics, a subsidiary of DHL Supply Chain in the Philadelphia area, have ratified a strong new contract.
The group of 180 warehouse workers, represented by Teamsters Local 929, secured an 18 percent wage increase, significantly higher health and welfare contributions, and improved working conditions. The Teamsters agreement also locks in a major retirement win, with pension contributions no longer capped and now applying to every hour worked.
The Teamsters Union represents nearly 50,000 law enforcement officers and is proud to celebrate National Police Week.
Teamsters law enforcement officers console grieving families and provide support at their most vulnerable moments, help get families out of harm’s way and make sure no one is left behind during extreme weather events, sacrifice their own safety to protect others from unsafe situations, provide wellness checks on elderly and disabled neighbors, and so much more.
Across the nation, Teamsters law enforcement officers work tirelessly every single day to ensure our communities are safe and prosperous.

300,000 people rely on LIRR to get to and from New York City every day.
