As you've undoubtedly heard (but hopefully did not experience), Hurricane Helene hit the Southeastern United States like a freight train almost two weeks ago.
Asheville NC, the childhood home of all four members of Archers of Loaf and current home of Matt and EJ, was hit especially hard, and will take years to rebuild even with the extraordinary efforts that people from all over the state, region and country are making to help the city, its people and the surrounding communities of western North Carolina.
In an effort to assist in our own way with the means available to us, we've included a previously unreleased Archers of Loaf recording titled "Great Holding Down" (which was recorded by John Plymale in Durham, NC around the same time as "Raleigh Days") on a fantastic compilation of music titled "Cardinals at the Window" assembled by Grayson Haver Currin, Libby Rodenbough and David Walker.
This compilation which includes OVER 130 RECORDINGS (!!!) is available for purchase through Bandcamp only (link in bio), and includes tracks from an absolutely unparalleled collection of musicians - you have to check it out for yourself, because there are simply too many amazing artists for me to list.
All of the proceeds will be donated to BeLoved Asheville, Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, and Rural Organizing and Resilience. The minimum donation is $10, but we humbly ask that you give what you can to help these devastated communities. As always, we appreciate your support!

Silver anniversary for probably the most divisive album in our catalog. Bring on the debate! Happy Birthday to all you White Trash Heroes. Pretty wild to think that our entire studio output prior to "Raleigh Days" / "Reason in Decline " occurred within a 5 year period between September '93 and September '98.
Recorded at Ardent Studios (Memphis, TN) and Sound of Music (Richmond, VA) by Brian Paulson. Mixed at Reflection Studios (Charlotte, NC) and The Fidelitorium (Kernersville, NC) by Brian Paulson and Mitch Easter.
One of my favorite memories from this recording session was watching Eric Johnson trying to nail the guitar part in "Slick Tricks and Bright Lights" at Ardent. He just couldn't get the part exactly like he wanted, so we opened up the Jack Daniels in an effort to hit that sweet spot of creativity, and boy did he ever come through. Our collective jaws dropped after that take.
So here's to you "White Trash Heroes"! May you continue to confound and divide.

30 years ago today our debut album, Icky Mettle, was unveiled to the world via Alias Records (and later re-issued by Merge Records).
Our recently departed good friend, Caleb Southern (raise a glass and toast our hero), recorded this album at his after-hours studio, Kraptone, at the 206 W. Franklin Street location of the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC in early 1993. The album was then mixed in Caleb's bedroom at the Purple House at 220 McCauley Street while the Cat's Cradle moved to its current Carrboro location.
Cheers to the memory of our dear friend, Icky Mettle. We salute you.
