At the Technical College System of Georgia, we see every day what is possible when opportunity meets determination. Across our 22 colleges, students are preparing for high-demand careers in healthcare, welding, cybersecurity, logistics, and more. For many young adults aging out of foster care, that journey includes significant obstacles.
In his recent op ed in the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Commissioner Greg Dozier highlights why the Fostering Success Act is so important for Georgia’s foster youth and our state’s workforce future.
Passed unanimously by the Georgia General Assembly in 2022, the Fostering Success Act created a foster child organization tax credit. This allows individuals and businesses to redirect a portion of their state income taxes, at no cost to them, to support foster youth pursuing technical education.
This support helps cover essentials such as housing, transportation, food, childcare, counseling, and tuition-related expenses. For students without a family safety net, these resources can mean the difference between staying enrolled and stepping away.
This is more than a policy. It is a pathway to stability, self-sufficiency, and skilled careers in high-demand industries across Georgia.
