It’s a Banner week here in Maine. On Tuesday we took a break in the middle of rehearsal for Willy Holtzman’s Honor Flight at @portlandstageco to take a company-wide trip to @fortlandmaine thanks to @carriganobrian ! I had the loveliest view of Portland Head Light and Spring Point Ledge Light while enjoying my lunch before delving into Fort Scammel itself.
Stayed up late to finish @levacrosen ’s Mirage City and it sure isn’t helping me stave off the desire to get into motorcycles.
A fun new mystery with Evander Mills following the Mattachine Society, some missing members, a motorcycle club and more. Well worth it, can’t wait for the next one.
Got to visit Grover’s Corners one last time yesterday with Steve, my mom and aunts, and my dear friend @ari.shalom and his partner @captainperspicacious .
Our Town was the first play I was in in high school, and this production at @portlandstageco was a real gift. It’s been so lovely working with all these local artists I admire, and reflecting on how lucky I am to have a career in the arts, a thing 16 year old me couldn’t even really dream of at the time.
Happy closing to the cast and crew of Our Town, and if you haven’t seen it yet you’ve got one more chance today at 2pm.
Week 2 coming in hot! Join us in Grover’s Corners, friends!

Testing… testing…
Fox Bramble Theatre Company exists to explore the weird and wilder sides of theatre. Founders Backus and Bryer want to get into the prickly, thorny, parts of the canon that are oft left unexplored in favor of more well-trod paths. Like a fox on the hunt, we aim to seek out fresh plays of the American theatre that draw blood.

Hey y’all. It’s been a wild start to 2026, and as January comes to a close I’d like to announce I’m officially the Associate Artistic Director of @portlandstageco !
I took the liberty of having a couple photos taken (thank you @rmbryer ) to celebrate on the set of Lend Me A Tenor after opening which is truly so so funny. You really gotta see it.
Also! I’ll be directing Our Town by Thornton Wilder in April on the Mainstage. A wildly full circle moment as my role in high school was George Gibbs.
Anyway, stay safe, stay sane, and see ya soon.

The more things change (I got a PhD! Todd is thriving in his career!), the more they stay the same (we’re big nerds who make silly faces). We’re so excited to be launching Fox Bramble this year and bringing Emily Dickinson in all of her #spookyscaryliterary glory to Portland this weekend, a moment over a decade in the making. If you’re around, we’d love for you to join us! Link in bio 💜
