CATAPILL — A Biomimetic Mule

The design draws inspiration from the unique anatomy and movement of a caterpillar, whose segmented body expands and contracts as it crawls. This natural rhythm informed the sculpted ribs and cavities of the mule, translating the insect’s flexible body and gripping prolegs into a footwear form that suggests cushioning, traction, and adaptive contact with the ground. The goal was to reinterpret these biological mechanics into a playful yet functional object through biomimicry.
