I don’t have words to express the magnitude of the loss of Muriel Hasbun, an extraordinary photographer and beautiful friend. Thank you dear Muriel for your vision and wisdom. We needed more time with you. I wish we could have brought our plans to fruition. Rest free, querida. 🤍🕊️ #murielhasbun @murielfoto@laberintoprojects
Last week, our TMAF President Tatiana Flores and Artistic Director Vanessa Selk walked the Art Basel Miami Fair together and spotted many talented Caribbean & LatinX artists (of course there were many more, including at other fairs, but there is only so much you can do when you take your time). As this end of the year is often hectic and articulated around productivity and revenues, Tatiana and Vanessa rhythmed the walk in their own pace, making it a rooted moment for a shared vision, purpose, and dedication to amplifying Caribbean & Latinx voices with the TMAF. They discussed their experiences with artists and art professionals and layed down future plans for the upcoming TMAF program, while agreeing that kindness and spirit of collaboration should always prevail and go hand in hand with creative talent.
They also loved seeing in person so many artists and friends - there is not enough room to share all the pictures 🤩

The US government shut down but @smithsonian is open for now. Enjoying the collections @americanart while I still can, in some cases in the company of friends. #contemparyart #latinxart #americanart #shutdown2025
First time in Portugal and began with a tour of African Lisbon @africanlisbontour . Incredible learning experience. It’s hard to reconcile the beauty of the city and its surroundings with the ongoing historical amnesia regarding the atrocities committed by Portugal that set in motion the transatlantic slave trade. It’s a lot to process. During the tour, we learned about key historical moments and spatial markers, including the Banco Nacional Ultramarino, that today houses a museum of design. (Talk about artwashing!) The mosaic inside the bank was not part of the tour but nonetheless a relevant example of the sanitized version of colonization that the country puts forward. #blackhistory #africandiaspora
Explore my latest solo exhibition at the Ringling Museum through our new catalog, with essays by Tatiana Flores, Erin Stone, and Christopher Jones. Thanks to everyone who made this possible. Catch it before the final weekend!
Thinking about Wong Kim Ark, stranded on a ship on San Francisco Bay in 1898, denied entry into the US despite having been born in SF and whose legal victory made possible birthright citizenship. #usvwongkimark #unitedstatesvwongkimark #birthrightcitizenship #wongkimark #fourteenthamendment #citizenship #chineseamerican #ushistory
Another unforgettable day in California, with the legendary textile artist Consuelo Jimenez Underwood @cju.art.threads Her weavings are incredible, her stories inspiring. We talked about how her father’s repeated deportations marked the course of her art. #latinxartist #womanartist #textileartist #chicanoart #latinxart #indigenousartist #abolishice #consuelojimenezunderwood
During my visit to Stanford, I loved seeing @maria_magdalena_campos_pons and @joiriminaya side by side @cantorarts . My favorite part of the day was nerding out on maps @david_rumsey_maps . The mega touch screen is a game-changer! The maps are from 1587 and 1688. #gulfofmexico #caribbeanart #mapart
The @isaacjulien retrospective @deyoungmuseum is a revelation. I’ve already made two trips to San Francisco to see it. The artist is such a visionary that it’s very hard to pick a favorite among his works. I couldn’t miss the chance to see Paradise Omeros, Fantôme Afrique, and Looking for Langston, but I didn’t even know about the existence of Baltimore, and as a Marylander, I’m obsessed! Amazing to see Once Again (Statues Never Die) after directing an undergrad thesis on the piece. And Lessons of the Hour reveals new information on every viewing. Julien’s art is a gift to humanity. #isaacjulien #videoart #contemporaryart #blackartist
