IDAHOBIT is more than a day of commemoration; it is an opportunity to celebrate the pride and allyship of the people who have worked to build equality around the world and raise awareness of the discrimination LGBTQIA+ people still face today.
Today, TasTAFE is acknowledging IDAHOBIT as part of our commitment to creating an organisation where every person feels valued, safe, heard and supported – work that aligns deeply with our long-term vision and values. 🌈

During National Careers Week, we celebrate the power of skills, training and meaningful career development. By providing learner‑centric, industry‑aligned short courses, we’re helping people build careers that deliver long‑term economic, social and personal benefits.
Earlier this week, TasTAFE CEO Dr Norman Baker visited the Sorell Jobs Hub and checked in on learners progressing through a Chemical Skill Set training course.
“Increasing and improving access to training for regional and remote learners is a key TasTAFE strategy,” Dr Baker said.
“Skills training delivers real economic gains for workers by offering a pathway to higher wages and career advancement – which is essential to keep regional communities thriving.”
TasTAFE has partnered with Business and Employment Southeast Tasmania Inc., @sorellcouncil and @landcare_tasmania to deliver the short course to Council staff, a local contractor and Landcare volunteers.

Important update for TasTAFE staff and learners
TasTAFE has been impacted by a global cyber security incident affecting Canvas, an online learning platform used by education providers worldwide.
As a result, Canvas is currently unavailable. At this stage, we do not have a confirmed timeframe for when it will be back online.
Current advice from the system provider, Instructure, is that data may include some personal information, including content stored within Canvas such as messages. There is no indication that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information were involved.
While investigations continue, the most immediate risk is likely to be phishing or scam activity.
A few simple ways to stay safe:
📱 Be cautious of unexpected emails, texts or phone calls asking for information
🔗 Don’t click on suspicious links or downloads
🔒 Avoid sharing personal information if contacted unexpectedly
We know this disruption may be frustrating and are working closely with the provider and cyber security authorities to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
