U19 McGrath 2025–2026 Season Recap
The U19s competed in Division 3 of six total pools at our age level. It was clear early in the season that the jump for the majority of our team from the U16 to U19 age group was quite significant in terms of physicality and overall size. This was even more relevant given that we were already a very undersized team. Aside from one Grade 12, we were essentially a U17 team.
That said, at no time did we back down or appear intimidated by any team we faced. Like all good teams, we learned to adapt.
With an overall record of 14 wins and 14 losses, all games were highly competitive. A season highlight included going 5-0 and winning the Division 2 IEM tournament in Newmarket. Entering Ontario Cup weekend, OBA had us ranked third in the second division, and although I don’t always agree with some seeding decisions made, I felt this was pretty accurate and gave us a great opportunity to medal.
Unfortunately, we ended up in a three-way tie for second place and missed out on playing in the bronze medal game by a +/- of 3 points. Nevertheless, banged up and bruised, the girls showed up on Sunday to win the final game of their season, finishing the weekend with a very respectable 2-2 record.
Other memorable non-basketball highlights of the season included the bowling Christmas party, attending our traditional Queen’s WBB game, and an epic Easter egg hunt in the Bayside gym.
Thank you to the Spirits Exec, our team’s generous sponsors, Ian for assisting me this year (very appreciated), Julie and Terri-Lynn for your organizational and planning skills, the players for your hard work and dedication, and the parents for your support and encouragement in keeping your daughters involved in youth sports.

We spent some time this week visiting customers across Belleville and Brockville, dropping off Smile Cookies as a small thank you. We’re proud to be part of this community and to work with so many great people and businesses every day. Every cookie sold supports the YMCA Centre for Life, so if you haven’t grabbed one yet, there’s still time to join in and give back locally.
