Since 2006, Calabash has been one of my hallowed spaces. It’s full of moneyed (and aspiring) Jamaicans who merely come to see and be seen, but for the starving artist, the poet with “so much things to say,” it’s been the best balm.
Every other year, some of my favorite heartical and bookish souls pilgrimage to Treasure Beach, Jamaica’s last bohemian outpost. Here, a strong sense of community flourishes, honest conversation ebbs and flows with the tide, and an artistic passion seasons the salty air.
As I anticipate 2027, my prayer remains: may this sacred corner of our island in the sun stay beautifully, stubbornly unique.
