2 years no drinking today. In so many ways I feel more lost and confused and desperate and suicidal and adrift than I did when I drank every day and maybe that’s kinda the point of it all. The flip side is that I also feel more swagged out and sexy than ever too. I’ve been holed up in Bakersfield the last few weeks just stewin’ and stewin’. Stewin’ to anger and stewin’ to regret and stewin’ to pride and stewin’ to self love and stewin’ to hatred and stewin’ to forgiveness and stewin’ to epiphany and stewin’ to nothing. I’ve been unwell for sure.
The main reason I wanted to pop on here is to announce that I’m releasing these Tarantula Hawk songs that we recorded in January. We whipped them up and mixed them all in one night. They’re not without imperfection but it really sounds like us. I love music so much I forget some times. I get all caught up in place and sorrow and forget that the one through-line purpose of my whole life is writing songs. Link will be up in bio. You can order tapes up there too. Thanks for listening. I love you. Happy 2 years no drinking to me 🎉
The sun is rising and I haven’t slept a wink! Me and the boys wrapped up recording last night and I’ve been up burning some tapes. I hope you’ll join us TONIGHT, Saturday Jan. 17th, at the ABQ Press Club for a night of pure, unadulterated, unabridged, rock and roll. I’m honored and excited to be playing with my best buds the Jelly Squirts to celebrate the release of their debut self titled album. I’ve been bumping the hell out of it! T-Hawk will also have a limited number of tapes, however many I can make between now and show time. Who knows, maybe I’ll bring my tape machine and cook ‘em to order… it’ll be the last T-Hawk show ever. I think I’m giving up the moniker and it seems like a good kiss farewell to get these songs down and into the world. I couldn’t have imagined these songs taking the shape they have and I couldn’t have done it without Adel, Alex, and Danny. Im always inspired when I get to play and make music with them and thats lucky! Also lucky is that, Lips and Shelby are gonna be bumping tunes to close the night out. I’m gonna dance! It’s 7 in the morning and my brain is hardly working so I’m gonna try to get a few hours of sleep before all of this goes down. I bought new shoes for this show you better come! Ok I love you! And I love music! Yippppeeeeee ❤️❤️❤️
Phew! I’ve been trying to write the story of landing in New Mexico in a way that will fit within the confines of instagram’s character limit for 2 whole days! I just can’t do it! It’s too much of an epic tale and epic journey. The long and short of it though is that I would have never been here the last 8 years if it weren’t for my love and friendship with Adel. Me and Adel met when I was 20 in a rinky-dink bar in Jacksonville, FL called the Shanty Town Pub. I was on a tour through the southeastern US with a new 2 piece rock and roll outfit me and my friend Mateo had just formed. I can’t remember a thing we talked about that night, but I think they invited me to a junkyard the next day with them now that I’m thinking about it. That would be very Adel. We kept vaguely in touch over the next few years and when I was 24 I started driving east one day in April of 2017. About 100 miles outside of Albuquerque I remembered that they had moved here and I asked if they wanted to hang out. They invited me over to their place in Barelas and we chain smoked and talked all night. That was 8 years ago and we never really stopped hanging out. So, like all great things, it was a bit by accident that I ended up spending the better part of the last decade here. And, also, like all great things, it must come to an end. Me and Lips got word a few months ago that our landlord kicked the bucket. His daughters took over the biz and decided to sell our sweet little home over on Marble Ave. I’ve decided I’m gonna head back down to California for a spell and try to make peace with some ghosts. I don’t know if I’ll be gone forever. Probably not. New Mexico is the first place that has ever felt like home for me. People ask me sometimes what I do or what there is to do around here, and I don’t really even know what to tell them. I just like it. And I like to be here. Tarantula Hawk is playing our last show ever at the Press Club on January 17th with our best buds the Jelly Squirts. They’ve been hard at work recording and are putting out their tape that night! And lastly but not leastly, Morsel and DJ IPad Baby are gonna be spinning tunes to close it out! I’m gonna dance!
I love you! 😘
