CPD will now investigate immigration operations in the city, following Mayor Brandon Johnson’s new executive order over the weekend. “ICE on Notice” gives local law enforcement guidelines on how to respond when federal agents violate the law. Under the new order, CPD will complete a report on any legal violation by federal agents, preserve body-camera footage during incidents where they do violate the law, and verify federal supervisors on the scene. Officials say “ICE on Notice” will serve as part of Chicago’s ongoing effort to hold ICE accountable.

It’s been over a month since the federal government shut down — tying with the longest shutdown in U.S. history. Experts say the shutdown will have the most impact on low-income families, such as the millions of people who didn’t receive their monthly food stamps this weekend. Community health workers, known as promotoras de salud, are empowering noncitizens with healthcare resources as thousands of immigrants lost access to state-funded healthcare.
