Thinking of redesigning your website? Start here to be sure you’re on the right track.
Ask yourself why:
It’s best to start with the basics, no matter if your motivations are multi-layered and complex, or as simple as, “Our current website is really, really old and outdated.”
Find your folks:
You know your audience. Use that knowledge to help your project team effectively and meaningfully reach them.
Give visitors a purpose:
Whether your website is purely informational, educational, e-commerce or advocacy, be sure that visitors understand what is being asked of them.
Learn from the past:
Take a close look at your current website. Be honest and particular about what might be worth keeping and what needs to get left behind in the new build.
List the functionality:
Create an idealized menu of all the amazing things you’d like your new website to do, and then work with your project team to implement them.

Twenty years ago today, Taproot was started in a garage by a guy named Sean trying to build something meaningful.
That same Sean sat down recently with the Tallahassee Democrat to reflect on two decades of doing good work for good people. He shared our journey, which has included everything from toddlers underfoot in a home office to projects that have have helped shape our city while strengthening our team.
More than anything, we’re especially thankful for the amazing people at Taproot who’ve helped us grow and improve over time. We couldn’t have done any of this without them.
Hear’s to another 20 years.

Continuing from our previous logo collection post for @logoarchive.now , we wanted to add a set of custom typographic Taproot wordmarks for them and the new @logoarchive.logotypes page. They are doing great things for the creative community by curating amazing work from talented designers all over, creating a huge resource database and garnering exposure to these awesome designers.
Thank you for all you’re doing @logoarchive , @logoarchive.now , @logoarchive.logotypes
We’re excited to welcome Grace Summers to the Taproot team as our new Project Coordinator. With a background in marketing from Florida State University and experience as both a researcher and marketing assistant, she steps into the role as a true marketing generalist who thrives on bringing structure to chaos. When she’s not working, you can find her tending her garden, exploring walking trails or spoiling her Labrador, Moose.

Here at Taproot, we’re very aware that no matter how long any of us have been in this industry, there’s always room for growth and creative development in an ever-changing field. That’s why we invest in our team in a variety of ways, including opportunities like creative conferences.
Recently, a couple of our team members traveled to Seattle for @creativeworks and came back with rejuvenated spirits, inspired minds and plenty of stories and goodies to share. Some of the takeaways have already made their way into our workflow and culture, while others served as timely reminders of what matters most when we’re deep in the weeds of client work.
The overarching theme of the conference was “Soul Over Scale,” a concept centered on focusing on the things that matter most and building a stronger foundation that leads to stronger relationships. Growth is great, but not at the expense of the integrity of who you are.
This recap is a small selection of highlights from the conference. From insightful speakers and hands-on workshops to meaningful conversations and exploring the city, there was no shortage of inspiration. It was also a chance to reflect on the moments and memories that will continue shaping new friendships and creative roots long after the trip ended.
Thank you to @creativeworks for fostering an environment that prioritizes community and craft in a world that often leans toward rushed production and over-embellished influence.

In The End, Craft Wins

It has been great to see so many talented logo designers in our feed creating posts for the logo showcase hosted by @logoarchive.now . It’s wonderful to see them create a platform for curated logos featuring so many designers to serve as a great resource as well as helping boost visibility to those in this community. Many thanks to @logoarchive.now and @logoarchive for your contribution to helping keep creativity thriving.
With that, we wanted to throw a few of our personal favorite Taproot “T marks” in the mix.

We partnered with the Florida Department of Health to launch a campaign raising awareness about fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, reaching pregnant and potentially expecting mothers with clear, life-impacting information. The message is simple but important: when you drink, they drink.
This targeted digital campaign is driving strong engagement and broad visibility across Florida. We’re grateful to play a small part in work that matters.

When we partnered with Sonny’s BBQ on their franchise site, the goal was simple: translate what makes Sonny’s feel like Sonny’s into a digital experience. The warmth, the craft, the sense that something’s been slow-smoked with intention. Every interaction on the site brings the Sonny’s experience to life and gives a taste of the brand before you even step through the door.

Not every mark makes it to a final branding presentation but every mark plays a role in getting us there. Early on we explore widely, pushing shapes, testing ideas and following threads wherever they lead. Then we step back, refine and narrow things down to a few directions we share. What’s left is a whole field of concepts that helped shape the outcome. And some of them are just too good to stay hidden. So here’s a look at the exploration that carried the work forward.
What do you look for in a successful logo?

We all have different tastes and perspectives in the kinds of books we reach for, but that’s exactly what makes it meaningful. At Taproot, we believe better thinking leads to better work, so we make space to read, learn and challenge ourselves beyond the day-to-day.
Feed the mind. Nourish the roots.

We’re excited to welcome @geostokes to the Taproot team as our new Senior Software Engineer. A natural problem solver, Geo loves digging into complex challenges and building thoughtful, human-centered solutions. When he’s not writing code, you might find him tackling a random home project, chasing a new hobby or hunting down the best vegan restaurant in whatever city he’s visiting. Learn more about Geo in his bio on our website.

Our very own Justyn Thomas had the opportunity to speak to the Senior Capstone class at FAMU, walking students through how to build polished, professional portfolio websites using WordPress. From exploring powerful built-in features to customizing themes, the focus was on helping each student confidently showcase their work to the world.
We always love the chance to help equip young creatives as they step into their careers. Grateful for the chance to invest in these future leaders.
