When discussing the scene, NK asked me to create a song that would be a jam between Chotu (a Rajasthani boy) and Chet (an American hippie). I tried making an original song for days, but it was just seeming too unnatural on chotu.
Then It dawned on me… why would Chotu sing an original song? As a Rajasthani boy, he’d naturally gravitate towards Sufi/Folk music. I suggested NK use Damadam, but he disagreed, saying it’s been overused. He agreed to use it only if I made it respectfully and offered a fresh concept.
I approached the song as a jam. I wrote the English lyrics and composed them, leading the melody towards Damadam. I scripted the jam section as a fun interaction between the two. During recording, I sang Chet’s parts for Devu since he wasn’t available. I arranged it minimally with just Dholak, Bass, and Guitar. Fun fact: there are two guitar versions of the song. The film version has the rough guitar rhythm I played from my keyboard, while the album version has a different and better guitar rhythm played live.
Thank you @musical_swaroop for all your help and hospitality ❤️🙏🏼

Some of the most famous works almost always have an interesting story. Here’s mine…
So way back in 2003 I composed 3 close-up TV scripts that were meant for research. Research ads are those that get played to a selected group of
people, who then rate the ads. The one that scores the most, gets made into a final TV commercial. Time was limited and I distinctly remember making this particular one in less than 30 mins. As I had taken way too much time on the other two.
I threw in some beats, worked out a bass and simple progressions with very few tracks and sang a scratch over it. Then @chetansashital Chetan came in and sang the final version in the voice of KL Saigal.
Then, as fate would have it, this particular one, bombed very badly in research and didn’t make it. But the ad gurus who wrote this script and conceptualised this ad, Mr. Piyush Pandey and Mr. Prasoon Pandey believed in the jingle and somehow convinced the client to go ahead with THIS one rather than the other one. It is sung by Chetan Shashital who has been a formidable force in the world of voices for several decades. This ad wouldn’t be what it is, if it wasn’t for Chetan’s incredible singing style.
