Celebrating International Leopard Day. More elusive than the tiger in the forests of India. Caught this leopard chilling, staring and peeking. Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, Feb 2026
💔I first met Valmik in the early 90’s when he gave a talk at ZSL. 60 mins starting with awe inspiring natural history shots, delivered in soft reverent tones. Then boom, the horrors of the poaching crisis at the time, slide after slide. Passion, anger, determination. I knew then what I wanted to do. I travelled to India in 1996 and met Valmik again and my life began on that day. I cannot count the number of times he has inspired, mentored, schooled, counselled and consoled me since then. A force of nature, the likes of which will never be seen again.
A productive meeting held between @ibca_official International Big Cat Alliance Interim Head Mr SP Yadav @spyadav_forest , Ms. Debbie Banks, Tiger & Wildlife Crime Campaign Leader, @eia_news and Mr. Avinash Basker, Legal & Policy Specialist, EIA.
Issues related to #BigCats challenges of conservation, status of illegal trade & trafficking and collaboration between the two organisations were deliberated.
“‘And far abune the Angus straths I saw the wild geese flee,
A lang, lang skein o’ beatin’ wings, wi’ their heids towards the sea,
And aye their cryin’ voices trailed ahint them on the air –’
‘O Wind, hae maircy, haud yer whisht, for I daurna listen mair!’“ - Violet Jacob, “Wild Geese”. A fine morn for watching the geese rise at Montrose Basin the day. #scottishwildlifetrust
