Some progress on Mark’s new all-roads Tamarack frameset. This one’s built with Columbus Spirit tubing, for 57-reach sidepulls allowing tires of 700x35 or 700x38. Mark selected Richard Sachs’ “Nuovo Richie” lugs with a few modifications; I removed the forward tangs, and shortened the lug points to suit the 51cm geometry’s head tube length. The main triangle’s done now, on to the rear triangle next. Coming along nicely, I think. #framebuilding #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #columbusspirit #madeincanada🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles

Tamarack frame # 161 is ready for paint. This one is an all-roads/gravel disc brake, Reynolds 853 Pro Team frameset built to clear 650b x 48’s or 700c x 42 tires. Built with silver brazed lugged construction, it features internal routing for the rear disc brake through the down tube, and wide clearances for big tires. This one is up for purchase - planning to paint it metallic gold Imron in the next week or so, but if someone wants a custom paint job, contact me…. Designed with a 6-degree sloping top tube, it’s the equivalent of a 56cm level seat tube (actual seat tube is 51cm CTC) with a 54cm top tube - call it a “medium” in today’s language. Stack = 570, reach = 370, head angle 71.5, seat angle 73, full geometry deets available upon request. Interested? Contact me. #reynoldstechnology #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #reynolds853 #madeincanada🇨🇦

Progress coming along on the next Tamarack custom frame - this one’s a lugged silver-brazed Reynolds 853 Pro Team all-roads machine. With the main triangle finished, I carved the seatstay tops from some sheet steel plate into an interesting 3d shape and brazed them in place. With the fender bridges are installed, the main frame is complete - now on to building the fork. #reynoldstechnology #framebuilding #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles #madeincanada🇨🇦

Dave’s new Tamarack Reynolds 853-Pro-Team frameset is back from the spraybooth. I finished spraying this yesterday, and picked it up today. This colour is impressive - it is Mazda “soul red crystal metallic”, a multi-layer paint which is what gives it such great depth. Two coats of primer, two coats of a bright white on the down tube, followed by two coats of a coppery-red base, then two coats of a ruby-red-tinted clear, then decals, then two coats of clear. Phew! But a luscious deep red that looks amazing in the sun. There’s a bare 31.8mm stainless steel band brazed on the seat tube where the front derailleur clamps, so that a change of chainring size won’t affect the paint. Paragon Machine Work’s stainless UDH dropouts got their cutouts masked as well, showing off the stainless. After a few days to cure, and some white enamel applied in the cutouts in the lugs and fork blades, this beauty will be winging its way to western Canada. #framebuilders #reynolds853 #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles #madeincanada🇨🇦

Paul’s Reynolds 853 29’er Tamarack is back from the paint shop. This is Mercedes Benz “brilliant silver metallic” - it’s too bad it’s a cloudy snowy day, as this colour really sparkles in the sunshine. Designed to clear 29x2.5” tires, it employed a 3d printed chainstay yoke and Paragon Machine Works UDH dropouts. The Bushnell bottom bracket allows it to be used as a singlespeed, but there are cable guides for a mechanical rear derailleur system as well. After an internal spray with RustCheck is allowed to drip dry for a couple of days, it will be winging its way to western Canada. #framebuilders #reynolds853 #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles #madeincanada🇨🇦

Dave’s all-roads Reynolds 853 Pro Team Tamarack, part 3. After brazing the chainstays to the bottom bracket shell, I added flat plate seatstay tops to the seatstays and brazed them in place, then added a slim curved seatstay bridge and the last few brazed-on fittings. The tires pictured are 700x40’s, there’s room to go a little larger if desired. The boss on the front fork below the fork crown is for a Paul Gino headlight mount. Always satisfying to stamp a serial number on the bb shell as the final step in building the frame. Now off to the paint booth! #framebuilders #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #reynolds853proteam #madeincanada🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles

Dave’s new Tamarack all-roads Reynolds 853 Pro Team frame, part 2. Dave had sent me a pic of a European frame where the builder had brazed a 31.8mm stainless sleeve over the 28.6mm seat tube, so that the paint wouldn’t be scratched if the front derailleur was raised or lowered due to a change in chainring size. I sourced some stainless tube in 0.065 wall, drilled it and brazed it in - the holes will be filled with the paint colour, the stainless will be buffed. After joining the down tube to the seat tube/bottom bracket, I mitered the top tube to fit the sloping top tube lugs and brazed it in, with a head tube extension above the upper head lug. Things are coming along nicely. #framebuilders #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #reynolds853 #madeincanada🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles

Dave’s new Tamarack all-roads road bike, episode 1. Dave asked for a lightweight road frame with clearances for 700x40’s, for riding poor paved roads and farm lanes with poor surfaces. We’ve selected Reynolds 853 Pro Team, their lightest heat-treated butted steel, and UDH stainless dropouts from @paragonmachine with BoBI Bolt-on Brake Interface flat mounts. By request, I removed the fork crown brake flats, brazed the crown to the steerer, then jigged up the thru-axle dropouts to the 853 Disc fork blades and completed the fork. I pressed dimples into the chainstays for big tire clearance, then attached the rear dropouts. Then prepped the down tube for internal routing of the rear brake hose and brazed in a full length liner tube with reinforcing covers. Stay tuned for Part 2. #framebuilding #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #reynolds853 #madeincanada🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles

Paul’s new Tamarack 29-plus hardtail is ready for paint. This one was a complicated build, outside my usual wheelhouse: Bushnell eccentric bottom bracket, curved seat tube, machined seat tube sleeve for dropper post, 3d printed bottom bracket yoke to allow clearance for 29x2.5” tires… Paul wanted the chainstays as short as possible, and these are, pretty tight. I used an 80’s style seat cluster with stays off the seat binder to get enough clearance for the curved seatstays, and added a small curved bridge for a little more rigidity in the rear triangle. This is set up to be able to run as a singlespeed, hence the Bushnell unit, or with a 1x12 derailleur system. Machined 44mm head tube and BoBI stainless dropouts are by @paragonmachine , frame tubing is Reynolds 853, with 3d printed chainstay yoke and chainstays from @bikefabsupply . Looking forward to seeing this after paint! #framebuilding #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles #madeincanada🇨🇦

Some more progress on Paul’s new Tamarack Boost hardtail mountain frame. After cleaning and fluxing the top tube, I brazed it in with 38% silver fillets and filed them smooth. I attached the Paragon Machine Works UDH dropouts to the chainstays and shortened the stays almost to the desired length. It took some time to figure out how to braze the yoke to the bottom bracket shell - I have to rely on the aluminum eccentric to hold the frame in my jig, but I can’t braze the yoke with the aluminum in place, so I set up the frame, yoke, and chainstays in the frame jig and drilled a couple of holes through the yoke and partially into the shell: then removed everything, completed the drilling and used a couple of pins to secure the yoke for brazing. Came out fine. Then I was able to shorten the chainstays to their final length, clean and flux, return them to their jig and braze the chainstays to the yoke, which ended up well. The tire clears the curved seat tube nicely. Now, onward to fitting the seatstays and final clean-up before paint. #framebuilders #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles

So this next Tamarack frame build has been interesting, so say the least. First build with an eccentric Bushnell bottom bracket on a Reynolds 853 hardtail, with a 3d printed chainstay yoke for clearance for 2.6” tires…. Paul wants to be able to run this as a single speed or a 1x12. The seat tube has a bend, to clear the big tire, so I added a machined sleeve at the seat cluster to accept a 31.8 dropper. The miters are offset toward the front of the massive bottom bracket shell. To secure the seat tube in the jig, I had to use the Bushnell to hold the alignment while I added some TIG tacks, then removed the eccentric and fillet brazed the seat tube to the shell. I added fittings for internal routing of brake hose and dropper and rear derailleur lines to the seat tube and down tube, then mitered the other main tubes and fitted everything in the jig. By braze-tacking the top tube in place, it held the down tube in place for fillet-brazing the bottom bracket shell. Alignment came out great. Lots of head-scratching went into this rig so far, with more to come - like how do I align and secure the chainstay yoke? Hmmm. #framebuilding #madeinnovascotia🇨🇦 #tamarackcycles

So, I just finished a respray on my 1981 Mariposa, handbuilt in Toronto. I’m the second owner, but whoever had this one built was pretty much exactly my size, all measurements are within a quarter inch of my 1983 Mariposa which was custom-built for me. This DuPont Imron colour is called “light rose gray metallic” and it’s quite lovely, I think. I lug-lined the Nervex Professional curly lugs in gold, which works nicely with the gold Mariposa decals. I’ll be reassembling this with all the same components, a mix of Campag Euclid, Super Record, and C-Record, including large-flange “sheriff-star” C-Record hubs on MA-40’s. The diamond braze-ons on the seatstays are for the direct-mount custom Mariposa-built rear rack. It’s a fabulous riding bike. #mariposabicycles #tamarackcycles #allyouneedislugs
