Talbot Type Yearworms – the year as a logo.
Some of the Yearworms reference the cultural scene at the time – at least in my head.
In the 1970s, BBC Radio 1 had an audience in the millions, the entire nation's youth. Before the internet and Spotify, it was more-or-less the only place to hear music. Mainstream pop and rock in the day and then progressively more left field as the night wore on – when all the good stuff got an airing on the John Peel show.
The 1972 Yearworm pays tribute to the Radio 1 logo of the time (keep scrolling, it's in there).

‘Come on you reds’. My home town team, Worthing FC, also known as The Rebels, won promotion from National League South to the National League at the weekend, that’s the fifth tier of the football league pyramid. Four more promotions and they’ll be in the Premier League.
With mates, we used to watch them as kids, avoiding the 50p entrance fee (1970's prices) by climbing over the wall at the back of the ground. Once, one mate and I – I think it was Michael Eastabrook – decided we’d like to play on their Woodside Road pitch, so climbed over the wall and started a game of 1 v 1 using the whole pitch – farcical. The angry groundsman soon stomped out, and asked what the hell we thought we were doing and not surprisingly booted us out.
I did a few designs recently, hoping they might be interested in my offer and in a way, atoning for the sins of my youth. They didn’t seem interested but I’m pleased to see them going well and enjoying the most success they’ve ever achieved in their 140-year history. Just got to try and stay up next season.

For the last few years, I've created birthday cards for friends that feature the year of their birth. They seem to go down well, so I've knuckled down and created one for every year since 1950. I'm calling them Yearworms – do you see what I did there?
