Come play with your food with us! On May 30th in Topanga, we’ll be joined by Kerry of @taka_table_ for a playful, hands-on cooking workshop.
Together, we’ll make Kerry’s famous empanadas — crafting rainbow-hued dough naturally dyed with botanicals, shaping them by hand, filling them with delicious vegetarian fillings, and baking everything together to share and enjoy.
Tickets available at the link in our bio!
Juicing! 80’s California sentimental cuisine still going strong, keeping your insides aromatic. Will make you feel glowing like a spring day. This juice has pure chlorophyll added from parsley (juiced in my mum’s vintage 90’s cold-press juicer). Taka will be teaching a juicing workshop this coming week at the @innatainstitute desert retreat, there’s still space to join us!
“And so I fell in love with a colour—in this case, the colour blue—as if falling under a spell.” -Maggie Nelson, Bluets
And so began experimentation with blue, courtesy of the highly pigmented jungle flower Butterfly Blue Peaflower. Whole flowers were steeped and infused to make periwinkle sugar cubes, breakfast tea and sky blue coconut sticky rice steamed in banana leaves (because it’s delicious).
A behind the scenes look at how I have fun. We have a dye workshop coming up May 30th, sign up @secularsabbath
Gentle herbal infusions: Lemon Basil from the farmers market bathed in hot water to impart that fresh essence. Rounded out with Honey, Lime, Black Salt and Cumin. Natural electrolytes. A pleasure to inhale that steam among the oaks at Elsewhere in Topanga. Sign up to Taka Table on the website to know about our upcoming workshops.
I think it’s the California dream to be on a juicing retreat. I got to serve these lucky people fresh squeezed juices all day long. The first days started with a gentle TCM menu that gradually augmented juices and reduced solid foods, until the final day which consisted of only juices (I think we did 9 juices that day, plus that bright berry smoothie in the middle). Hot veggie & seaweed mineral broth was available on tap (on pot) all day long. Just wait till you see the broth preparation. I took home 2 bins of compost from this retreat alone. Heaven. Produced for @innatainstitute
I’m so lucky I get to create crazy experiences like this Neo-Surrealist dinner. What does that even mean?! It means I got to make all of my crazy fantasies like pickling quail eggs, fermenting pineapple, dipping veggies in butter, wrapping fish in banana leaves and improvising with makeshift tin foil hair ties. It was 9 courses, which was totally unnecessary, and we played a game with each course. Just for fun. I’m a minimalist is most areas of my life except for a party. Taka Table website has launched! So much of cooking is away from the digital space and being a part of the real life. But putting info words what the food studio represents feels wonderfully cohesive and helps me understand- why fashion and why food. Taka Table is an experimental food art studio investigating new ways to engage with food, international cultures, ecological themes and creative practice. But ultimately the real meaning comes from sharing it together. Please check it out, link in bio.
