As my grandma used to say: If you’re in hurry, slow down. And the halliards?! After a half a day we replaced 1,5 of the 3. Another lesson: things tend take their time. Regardless of our schedule.

flashback #12: And off we go! Sailing from Ares to Camarinas took 2 tries – the first time, escorted by a pod of dolphins, we decided to postpone the passage and anchored near A Coruna for a night. ⛵
That's where we caught our very first fish for dinner!
That's where we've observed dolphins passing by from the galley window. 🐬
That's where we heard on the VHF radio, that a "person over board" is missing and all sailors are asked to keep a sharp lookout..puhhh. 😳 With gusts of up to 30knots, white caps and rocky seas we knew that we made a good call that day not to sail along the infamous Costa da Morte..💀
Meeting Choufe & Melanie from SV La Suerte was just as nice as the anchorage in Camarinas – and a start to a sailors friendship that have taught us a lot since then! Merci beacoup! Not only for the "all sails up" picture 🥰

In case you're bored of staring at the compass, just choose a star — one that lies in your field of view and shows a relation to one of the sails, shrouds or railing. Check the course again. Then simply keep it there — the star on its place, and Tailwind on track.

summer memory #43: Oh, Porto! You cute little city, full of surprising views and never ending traffic. Colorful and diverse. Just like the cars jamming your most intimate quaters. Your muddy river and plastered hills, your curious smell and severe lack of accesibility — it al thought us quite a bit. Thanks.
But the real lesson for me was to decode my tendency for comlulsive assistence where no help is due..
With Dirk, an able man, great mind and even bigger heart, we agreed upon his necessity to "fight" for certain things, to go through that effort and foster his resilience in doing so. Sure, you'd be quicker jumping up at the dinner table to get that one spoon missing — but the result would be Dirk remaining seated, again, and again, and again. Too much "help" would therefore harm in the long run.
Ina, his lovely partner and an increadible Taiwind Crew match, knew this, of course.
For us it was a valuable lesson on help and its side effects.

While fog, rainbows and cloud formations can be magnificent at times, you don't necessarily want to observe them from a sailing boat under way.
Why? It's simple. A boat doesn't have brakes and when the visibility restrict your view to only your own bows, you better have a radar, the AIS on and someone practicing on the horn. Especially in busy water like these.
But after a rather blind day of motorsailing we made it to the lovely town of Viana do Castelo!
