• BIG PETE | LIGHT SCULPTURE • DESIGNED BY: @tactildesign@futildesign DIMENSIONS: • 650 x 720 x 940 - mm MATERIALS: • Scagliola • Glass Big Pete is a large-scale floor monument that transcends functional lighting, standing as a testament to pure sensuality and the tactile nature of form. More akin to an abstract sculpture than a traditional fixture, its silhouette is defined by flowing, biomorphic undulations that invite both the eye and the hand to follow its seamless, rhythmic curves. The work is rooted in the principles of biomorphism, where the design language intentionally mirrors the fluid, irregular geometries found in living organisms. Rather than relying on the cold, rigid lines of industrial modernism, the sculpture adopts a morphology that feels cellular or anatomical. This approach dissolves the boundary between the artificial and the natural, creating a piece that appears to have grown or evolved into its current state. The Scagliola finish is meticulously composed to showcase organic patterns that surge and recede in harmony with the pieces undulating surfaces, suggesting a petrified life force. Integrating two expansive glass light spheres, the sculpture anchors these ethereal globes within its heavy, fluid landscape. The interplay between the solid, hand-worked material and the internal glow of the glass creates a profound physical presence. Big Pete is a celebration of “geometric memory,” where the mechanical light source and the living, breathing shape of the sculpture are completely and sensuously unified. #apntmnts_only #minimalism #modernism #interiordesign

My new torchiere series explores the iconic form of the industrial chimney, finished in hand-polished Scagliola. A dialogue between the monumental and the refined. #Tactil #IndustrialInspiration #Scagliola #DesignObjects #FineCraft MontrealArtist Sculpture InteriorInspo LightingDesign

PUNCHBAG Hanging lamp. Custom black scagliola with 3 glass orbits, suspended by a butcher's hook. The Punchbag suspended lamp is a visceral exploration of form and materiality, where the rigid tradition of Scagliola meets a narrative of physical impact. Meticulously handcrafted to evoke the depth of obsidian-black marble, the piece subverts expectations by adopting the slumped, exhausted silhouette of a deflated soft bag. Its presence is both heavy and haunting—a solid object transformed into a spent vessel. The lamp's defining character lies in its three deep, radial indentations, appearing as though the material responded to a forceful strike. Nestled within these hollowed-out craters are the light sources, which cast a dramatic, localized glow that emphasizes the intricate textures and the curvature of the "impact zones." The interplay of light and shadow creates a rhythmic tension between the perceived violence of the punch and the stillness of the light. Further leaning into this industrial, almost brutalist aesthetic, the piece is pierced at its crown and suspended by a weathered commercial butcher hook. This mounting choice adds a layer of raw, clinical utilitarianism, grounding the refined finish in a more tactile, gritty reality. Punchbag is more than a light fixture; it is a frozen moment of kinetic energy—an artifact of memory and gravity. #scagliola #hanginlamp #sculpturallighting

PARTNER / ARTISAN Tactil (@tactildesign ) brings a material-driven narrative to DADA’s first Montréal edition. Led by Alexandre Berthiaume, the practice reimagines scagliola through a contemporary lens, merging digital processes with traditional techniques. With a background in architecture, his work moves between precision and expression, often drawing from the body and its transformations. The resulting pieces feel both raw and enduring, balancing vulnerability with strength. DADA Montréal 1–2 octobre 2026 October 1–2, 2026

In celebration of the opening week for the Torlonia exhibition, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is showcasing three of my most recent sculptural lighting works. This trilogy of torchère lamps serves as a deep exploration of geometric memory and material transformation, reimagining the industrial chimney through three distinct narrative lenses: Le Vestige (The Vestige): A visceral alliance of marble, rust, and soot. Here, the Scagliola captures the essence of natural erosion, evoking the inexorable passage of time and the atmospheric weight of decades. L'Activité (The Activity): Rendered in a profound charcoal grey, this piece utilizes varying densities within the material to suggest the ethereal movement of smoke and the latent heat of combustion. La Genèse (The Genesis): A vibrant terracotta hue that recalls the original brick—the fundamental foundation of our built landscape and a tribute to primordial architectural materials. Displayed within the museum's glass pavilion, these pieces establish a contemporary dialogue with the classical Torlonia marbles, bridging the gap between ancestral craftsmanship and a raw, industrial poetic.
