tickets at the link in bio! let’s go!! beyond thrilled to welcome abe pedroza to table records! a first generation mexican-american, abe relocated to melbourne at the start of 2020 and quickly came to miss the authentic flavours of home. we’ve watched with great envy as he’s cooked beautiful meals for friends and more recently started pop ups under the moniker ‘el unico’ - we really have been waiting patiently for a chance to get him up here!
to soundtrack the night, we’ve called on our good friend umut at high note to put together a line up for the evening. stay tuned for more on that soon soon!

live bugs from lakes entrance (wow) came in yesterday, so today we have them steamed with some organic butter and pastis and garlic and a tiny bit of chilli and plenty of parsley AND lemon. in the spirit of the fresher the better, these will once again be available for one night only (tonight/friday) from 5pm. a rare treat indeed, especially in this corner of victoria! don’t delay!
annnnnd rounding out the rest of your evening will a four hour b2b from two of the great selectors of Melbourne - umut and lori. huge! let me tell you more!
lori is a melbourne-based vocalist, dj and producer - her career spans across live performance, djing, curation, event production, radio and education, all underpinned by a deep instinct for sound and atmosphere.
she’s collaborated with artists such as hiatus kaiyote, baro, silentjay and remi, and has appeared on that huge touching bass comp from a couple of years ago, as well as theo parrish’s sound signature label. you probably also know her from her consistently brilliant shows on skylab radio and nts. moving freely across styles, lori blends soulful melody, rare grooves and left-of-centre selections, consistently digging out the unexpected and threading it into sets that feel rich, warm and aliiiiiive!
b2b with lori for the night, our friend umut! one of melbourne’s most compelling selectors (and one of the owners of the seminal high note in northcote), umut traces a path from the fading late ’90s uk rave culture to a deeply rooted presence in australia’s underground. informed by years spent working behind the scenes with labels and artists (and as a devoted digger), umut has a penchant for hidden gems that drift between ambient, new age, offbeat disco and timeless electro, resulting in cratefuls of thoroughly energising music. his sound has found a home on platforms like nts radio and worldwide fm, as well as at dekmantel festival and potato head beach club (to name a few) AND through projects like antipodean anomalies with left ear records. umut’s sets are refined and far reaching and make for a genuinely thrilling dancefloor AND im excited

a roving series that puts other people’s record collections in the spotlight, with a residency at republic economica every second wednesday. she loves sharing the decks with fellow music nerds! esin also co-founded Solace Groove, a once-a-year fundraiser that doubles as a proper dance party, raising money for local communities and those further afield. raising close to $7k last year bloody nice one!
she works at Rathdowne Records, digs all over the world, and has spent long enough living

hi! i have some very quick news for you! today we got in some fresh tiger prawns from a farmer called clem jones in nsw - it’s a true rarity to get a fresh prawn in such good condition (i took a piccy for u), and farmed prawns in australia are super sustainable, so therefore this situation is Quite Special. for one night only, we are giving them a quick roast with a splash of cream and some zest (which makes the most lovely sauce with all the prawn juices) and finishing with a nice amount of chopped parsley and a nice amount of olive oil and a big wedge of lemon. very nice very limited! bisous see you soon!

🌀Sunday may 10 table records - free afternoon show in store @table.records Castlemaine - kind of a regional ‘you are in my dreams’ launch, think it will be a special one.

alright record store day is nearly here! here’s a little more about the music! woohoo!
kicking off at 3pm, our live music for the day will be coming from marley del prete and his six (!) piece band. marley is an improvisational jazz trumpeter, sitting somewhere in the spiritual/free jazz realm and drawing inspiration from the like of don cherry and pharoah sanders. his latest release with uk jazz legend nat birchall (sacred heart/sama) is SUPERB and i can’t wait to here the sounds of him and his ensemble in our wee bar.
and then djs! the first i’d like to introduce (on her table records debut) is bridget small!! this word gets bandied around a bit, but here I think it’s completely valid - bridget is a complete legend of our local industry. she has her fingers in many, many pies both here and abroad - with roles at program records, left ear records, PBSfm and regular shows on NTS AND hosting the morning show on skylab radio... do i need to say more? we’re giddy to have bridget join us this saturday.
joining bridget on the line up will be our very own claire dickson! for our thursday and friday shoppers, claire will be a familiar face in the store - and for everyone, she’ll be familiar as the host of PBSfm’s brilliant breakfast show on mondays and tuesdays (and an endless list of stunning sets between here and naarm). claire has a frankly thrilling taste in music - we’re lucky enough to have had her play twice here, and i can’t count the amount of times i’ve asked her for an ID.
closing out the night will be our dear buddy and immaculate selector mel musu. when we want a party, we call mel - he’s played the unofficial pride party, as well as closing out our first birthday party (which. was. yuge.) and just generally has an incredible intuition for what the room needs at any time. forever an honour to have mel behind the desk.
