Stopped off at Kilkhampton on the way back from Bude and - wow St James' Church is awesome. Look at that Norman doorway! And the fantastic 16th century pew ends! Some of my favourites: wolfy-boy with his bird head tail; just kings being bros; a man and his bear; someone who looks to have a cuttlefish head and fishtail, mid-belly laugh

Thank you @bude_litfest for inviting me to take part in your wonderful literary festival! I had an amazing weekend - getting to meet incredibly talented budding writers at our "Writing the Supernatural" workshop, browsing the excellent @spencer_thorn bookshop, and of course working with the ever delightful @joan.j.passey β€οΈ look at our books hanging out in the window together π₯Ή finally, thank you to everyone who generously shared their own tales of the weird with me - a sure sign that we're still living in magical times!

I visited Iford Manor Gardens for the first time today and it's a place of pure (very purple !) joy π I met some excellent plants and some equally excellent felines (both animate and inanimate. Very good catting all round).

I just finished Father Alberto and the Flying Girl by @timxatack and - wow. I've rarely read anything so vivid and empathetic, so gentle and yet utterly heartbreaking. It's historical fiction with a modern message, but not in a way that feels trite. It's religious but in a firmly human way. And it's about love, but there's no twee romance in sight.
Father Alberto is coming out in June - definitely one to add to your reading list π

Throwback to the time I met a - strangely cute, and tender - mummified cat at @moyseshallmuseum . It was found in the walls of a house in Suffolk, if memory serves - possibly an example of magical house protection?
(I can't think about the cat too deeply or I cry, but the history is cool)

Some quite unsettling photos taken at a recent talk (thanks to Sophie L for sharing them!). If my shadow's to be believed, it looks like I'm entering my hag era early π§ fingers crossed it's as fun as Nanny Ogg promised
First class of the term at @studyabroadbath and I'm excited to get stuck into some weird and wonderful history with some wonderful and (hopefully) weird students ππ
Today's Book of the Day - Cunning Folk by Tabitha Stanmore - was chosen by our resident ghost. She has ... um... brought this book to our attention at least 3 or 4 times now, so it must be as good as it sounds!
A vibrant look at a distant but strangely familiar time that overturns our assumptions about the history of magic. (Nonfiction)
(Questions about the oddness of these photos? Ask our staff ππ)
